Windows eight (8)

Heh, I wish I had started playing with Windows 8 before now.

Again I probably should have done a clean install instead of upgrade, but when I try to delete the folder 'C:\Windows.old', it prompts:

'You will need to provide Administrator permission to delete this folder'.

I answer 'Continue' and then after scanning all the files it's going to delete it prompts again with:

'You need permission to perform this action.

You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder.

Try Again, Skip, Cancel'

Try again doesnt magically work. There is only 1 account on that laptop and it has admin rights. Time to google for some solutions, or if I get desperate I'll boot Linux off a usb drive and delete the folder.

Also I'm guessing I can turn off the notifications for 'There is a newer application for this filetype' everytime I open a JPG on the desktop. Time to hunt that setting down too.

Try taking ownership of the folder?

I saw this in my google search too, but it's not matching up in my case. On the LEFT how it should look? (maybe that was developer version?) on the RIGHT how mine looks. And no it's not simply further down the list.

Something odd here. Like maybe my Account doesnt really have admin rights or I need to launch cleanmgr 'as administrator'. I do sorta want that 10+gb of space back since this netbook only has a ssd.

I had issues with the upgrade process also. Ended up just reinstalling from scratch. It's worth noting that my upgrade copy didn't ask for proof of a previous copy of windows.

No luck. First I tried giving my account full control of the folder. Then I changed ownership and rebooted. Now when I attempt to delete it says - 'You require permission from Triscuit-PC\Triscuit to make changes to this folder.' Obviously the user I'm logged on as.

I tried using an admin command prompt but simply responds with 'Access Denied'.

Time to prep that Linux LiveUSB stick.

As long as you have that LiveUSB stick out, you might as well just install it.

I need Valve to hit a homerun with that Linux Steam Client first.

Here's hoping.

Games and drivers are officially the only two things keeping Windows on my computer anymore. Visual Studio 2012 is so ugly and unusable that I've uninstalled it. I've been more productive writing C in ssh on my home server.

Even if they did it wouldn't matter, they'll just promote Sinofsky to CEO and he'll drive out everyone else.

The new HP laptops ship with UEFI Secure Boot enabled and no way to disable it or replace Microsoft's key. They are Windows 8-only machines.

You should have been avoiding HP laptops before you heard this news, but now you should avoid them even harder.

Based on your YOSPOSting, the only place you belong Tibby is FYAD. And I only say that because you won't fit in there either, but at least you'll get banned faster.
2012-11-01, 12:29 PM #98
thanks, how's your day?
2012-11-01, 12:45 PM #99
Tibby, on a scale of 10 to 10, how upset are you going to be when you get banned from SA for your terrible posting? You don't "get" YOSPOS, and you don't even get ****posting. You just post whatever you feel like, and then flip out when everyone laughs at you.

I offer this as Exhibit A:

Although, perhaps they don't ban you because it's too much lulz to make fun of you to the point where you don't even realize you're being trolled.

i dont recall doing any flipping, infact all day today I have remained perfectly parallel to the ground.
Now please stop derailing this thread with your vendetta, this thread is about Windows 8.

You accidentally capitalized that sentence there, bro. gb2fyad.

So, I saw on /. today that Steve Sinofsky resigned on the 12th. Wikipedia says that there might have been a power struggle between Steve and Steve, apparently over the right to be the next Steve Jobs.

It was a tech school. I wasted a year of my life there (Jon'C literally called it), left, and now I go to uni.
2012-11-20, 8:24 AM #109
Tibby, yes gmac is technically a university now but it's not a very good one.

Just transfer to U of A, after textbooks it's about the same cost (if not cheaper) and you're more likely to get financial aid. Do it now. You can only transfer a max of 60 credits and there's no transfer agreement for most of the courses you're taking.
2012-11-20, 5:46 PM #110
I probably will, don't worry about me I've already got that all planned out.
