Rogue Leader, hardest Star Wars game I ever played....

Then again I haven't played those Super Nintendo games so those could be harder...

Anyway, those gold medals are such a pain to get! I mean I have to destroy 91 targets, while at the same time, complete the Death Star in under 5:43?! Anyone actually gotten all gold medals?
2003-12-29, 2:41 PM #2
That game was pretty hard.
Oh, but for the record, I believe Super Return of the Jedi was the hardest. bjorking. (SW) game I've ever played.

Yeah, Super Empire Strikes Back was a pain; Super Return of the Jedi was easier, but I don't think I ever beat that either.

This game was ridiculously hard. Too many hard ways to die, and it didn't have passwords like the others. I beat it though. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

My brother got RL for Christmas - it's hard, but once you figure out the objectives and grab the upgrades it gets easier.

Actually RL was pretty easy once ya learn how the TIEs spawn and whatnot. I tell ya what though, their Slave 1 SUCKED. In RL the Slave 1 is so frickin slow it's pathetic. The only redeeming quality is when you get the seeker cluster torpedo upgrade, hehhehhheheh! Slave 1's slow but can kick some major butt in the first part of the Endor level! I haven't gotten them all....yet. I'm just missing 3-4 on the regular levels. I'm missing two bonus levels though, because I need the points from the gold medals to unlock them.

Rebel Strike was a pretty poor follow up though... just had to add that.

Super Star Wars: Beat it after many hundreds of tries when I was like 8

Empire Strikes Back: Borrowed it once, rented another time, got to cloud city

ROTJ: I actually beat this game...I seem to remember Luke's level, attacking the endor outpost, as being hte hardest levle I'd played. Also the assault on the generator inside it by han/luke/leia...took forever.

Rogue Leader: Can't seem to find it at blockbuster, always rented

Rebel Strike: I rented it, I actually have to take it back tommorrow, it's OK, but the 3rd person ground missions just suck.

and we all know the next rogue squadron game instead of doing the smart thing and removing the ground missions they will simply try to "make them better"

the only wayt o make the ground missions better is to REMOVE THEM it's rogue squadron we should be piloting vehicles preferably flying vehicles

You thought that was hard? At least for that one, I could beat the first two levels in a few minutes, and the third one after about an hour. Never got past #4 though. Then again.. I was 9.

Pah, the only reason I found RL difficult was because I was out of practice (and had never played GCN games). Once I got used to the controller and the game's format, dusting TIEs and Star Destroyers wasn't a problem.

I don't mind ground levels, they can be good. Battle for Naboo on N64 had missions where you went on some weird looking STAPs, in a Flash Speeder or in a Gian Speeder. The Theed levels were actually quite fun.

The thing I hate about the ground levels in RStrike is they're just in the way. Like on the Geonosis mission, they tried to throw some sort of weird story with a twisted character but it just doesn't make any sense. It was just a pointless ground mission... Hoth was nice though.

The best thing to do for Golds in Rogue Leader is to memorize where enemies spawn, how they usually react to you, etc. It can be really easy to get a gold then.

Rebel Strike was good for the coop version of Rogue Leader. My and my younger brother thought that was awesome.

Alright tips for getting gold on the Death Star level? How about Battle of Hoth?

The original Rogue Squadron actually wasn't all that super hard to get golds. Granted the I played the PC version and the flight stick made it somewhat more easier. The trick was to beat the whole game first then you can use the V-Wing in all the regular missions. Its homing cluster missiles saved you a tremendous amount of time. Add in the fact that its also fast and had a rapid firing rate.

Rebel Strike? Is that game worth it? I heard the drivable swoop bikes and AT-STs were fun; but the ground missions were heinous like you guys mentioend.

Battle of Hoth: STAY MOVING. Don't hang in one area, or your time will blow by so quick it'll be over before you know it. You HAVE to take down AT-AT's at full speed. If you can't do this yet, get working on it. Know where each is, and try to take out as many AT-STs on your run in's to the AT-ATs. Also, if you are really good, you can nail a few AT-STs while actually tieing down an AT-AT. Ace difficulty means just getting hit less [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Death Star: May the level burn in hell. Hit accuracy will be your downfall here. You need to hit all the flies, and you need to hit them without seeing them well. Here's what helps:

Take as many as humanly possible while they are still in formation. Get your wingmates with you, flying beside you in formation. Their firepower doesn't count in accuracy rating. Don't forget those star destroyers have 3 parts in them. It's a pain in the arse, but it has to be done. Losing a ship to take down a Star Destroyer is not a bad idea. Just don't lose more than one.

The actual run down into the death star is quite easy. Go as fast as possible, juke around when possible, and for God's sake, don't fire your missles too early. And don't get too comfy, because the ride out is just as bad as on in. Except the fighters are less of a problem.

Hope that helps some.

Battle of Endor's quite easy, and has a programming exploit!

You know that Mon Calamari cruiser below all the other ships in the level, the Liberty? Well ya see they forgot to program the AI to react to it. Got a problem with too many TIEs? hehhehheh

When I play the level, I just quickly turn around to the TIEs. After they pop out, I take out a wingman in each wave of ties (just some aggitation), each wave is like the first one, so it's easy to just get them in linked shots. Then you turn around and weait for TIEs to start trailing you.

Now go into cruising mode where the wings fold together, and fly down on an easy course (so you don't sweep ties off) then turn under the edge of the Cruiser and BRAKE! Now tons of TIE's will quickly slam into the cruiser without the computer making them dodge or anything. Just be careful going around the edge of the cruiser, the bounding box of it is a little more out than the edge.

Then you can quickly pop back up and destroy the remaining TIE's without being shot at alot. You can also do this with the second fleet of TIE's that comes in, just do it quickly.

I think Rebel Strike is pretty fun. Played through the coop with a friend of mine over the weekend. Holy crap, it's addicting. Never had so much fun with a Star Wars game.

It's friggin' hard, that coop mode...

I pray that one day we will see another flight sim Star Wars game. Thanks for the tips, although I forgot to specify which Death Star. I meant the first one, the one with the trench run and all. Oh Cool Matty, didn't realize you changed your user name....

Jedigreedo, that strategy, I'm guessing when the TIEs crash like that. They don't count as your kills?
2003-12-31, 2:08 PM #26
Nope unfortunately, but it is easier to get kills when you don't have 20+ TIEs from every possible direction shooting at you. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Not really......I beaten it with quick saves. Well I finally beaten the game today. The Death Star Tunnel Run was much more accurate compared to X-Wing Alliance's. I mean afterall, in the movie they spent like only four minutes to reach the core. Although some of the dialoge seems to be missing, especially Lando's copilot. The guy who talks funny.

didn't any of you lot find X-Wing hard? the pre-"collectors edition" DOS version

one review I remember for it from 1995 said "you need an IQ of 200 and the reflexes of a 7 year old"

I didn't have either, but I had 2 years to kill.

I haven't touched the game for 3 years now, but E2M10 was the hardest, Lambda Shuttle disable & boarding while being attacked by T/F's, T/I's, Lambda Shuttles and T/I's with missiles that go for your shuttle.

Oh, you're in a Y-Wing. And your "escort"(2 x-wings, either blue or green squadron) dies in ~2 minutes.
2004-01-02, 7:09 AM #30
Hehheh, never got play X-wing but you went through similar missions like that in TIE Fighter. I miss playing that game (can't find my disc), I loved how on some missions they made it to where you can choose your secondary weapons. You can have proton bombs, cuncussion missles, proton torpedos, etc.

Now that you mentioned it X-Wing was incredibly tough. The X-Wing was very unmanueverable (forget it if you're in a Y-Wing) and the TIEs could circle around you many times. I never beaten that game, TIE Fighter had a better moderate difficulty level.
2004-01-02, 9:19 PM #32
I've only played the first Rogue Squadron for PC. I was always frustrated that you had to follow the games timing and go through the mission one way or its over. I loved X-Wing Alliance because it was much more lenient with that, not to mention cooler names for the characters.
