First off, how many people actually check the Technology Forum?

Okay, here's my problem. Whenever I play a game for over about 15 minutes, my computer gets a black screen, or restarts. This all started after I put my new hard drive in, so I was wondering if it's a hard drive problem, or is the extra heat from the hard drive making my video card overheat or something?

Specs:
Windows XP SP1
MS-6390 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 1800+ XP
256MB DDR
NVidia GeForce 4 Ti4200
1-30GB Quantum 7200RPM HD
1-120GB Maxtor 72000RPM HD

It could definatly be a heat problem, do you have a temperature monitor?

Everything is up to date.

Yes, my CPU temp is running at 45°C, which I think is acceptable. I'm not able to tell the temperature of my video card, but I did take the side of my case, and I have a fan blowing on it. This hasn't helped however.

Could be a power problem as well. Might need to get a new power source with more juice.

Random restarting sounds like two things:

a) Virus
b) Overheating

It's most likely the second one. Maybe whilst installing the HD, you knocked out a fan or something? Open it up and check it out! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

All the fans are still working, and I even added another one today. I was thinking about buying some aftermarket cooling for my video card.

And not everything's up to date, you need to get up to I think it's SP4 now?? That is, unless you updated it since this thread was posted.

That's actually not that much. I have a 450watt. For that system a 350-400 would be good. Especially since you have 2 HDs.
