I need help creating rollovers in flash MX 2004

This semester I learned how to use Adobe livemotion to create flash animations by taking a class at uni. I recently acquired Flash MX 2004, and as anyone who has used livemotion knows, Flash MX is a hell of a lot more complicated, and very little of my livemotion training can be applied in flash MX. I expected to jump in and be able to hit the ground running, but it hasn't worked out that way.

I've figured out how to work with the Flash timeline (It's very different from livemotion's timeline, where objects were separated automatically. In flash, you have to assign each object you want to manipulate individually to its own layer, at least as far as I can see to the best of my understanding). I've learned how tweening works in flash (In livemotion, its automatic).

However, I still haven't figured out how to do a simple color-change button rollover in flash Mx. In livemotion, I could do it in my sleep, but like I said before, flash mx is just different enough to make most of what I learned in livemotion absolutely useless. (grr!)

So, can anyone walk me through the process of setting up a button that changes color on mouseover and changes back on mouseout?

Thanks.

There are a couple of ways it can be done. You can do it the simple way where you just create a new symbol (button instance) which has 4 frames (up, over, down, hit) in a single layer then put your button graphics in the appropriate frame. If you want some more complex animation in the button you need to create a MovieClip. You can put this into the 'over' frame or better still connect the 'over' mouse event to the movieclip separately using variables. As you say flash can be a little daunting to begin with.
Check out Flashkit which has many tutorials and forums for your kind of question.
Also check out my Jedi Knight Editing site which incidentally I have just converted to Flash.
