From here.

I'd just like to find out what level of participation we would get on putting together a Massassi Jazz album (who's interested in playing/has recording equipment).

[This is all just preliminary speculation right now, but I thought it would be cool to have a bunch of small band/solo stuff and then put together a Massassi big band (this would be a logistical nightmare, though) if we could get enough horns.]

[Edit #2: Just to be clear, this is not you volunteering to play for me unless you specifically want to collaborate or I get the big band off the ground. This is you sending me some tracks to put together an album with.]

------------------
Shut up. I'm GOING to do this whether you like it or not.

I'd be interested. I've already got a version of 'Autumn Leaves' recorded that is ready to be contributed. I'll be glad to help more if needed as well(if I can find time). I've got a small studio in my basement that I would use. I could play Sax, Clarinet, Bass or Guitar if needed.

Yay for being a trumpet player! A trumpet major in college for that matter. . .let me know what you need. My roomie has all the recording stuff I'd ever need.

I play acoustic guitar. I don't know any jazz songs though.
In fact, I have to admit that I don't listen to much jazz. I love the Cowboy Bebop soundtracks and dig Tom Waits, but otherwise I don't listen to it really.
I do like instrumental jazz though.

I don't play anything, but if you do this, I will definitely buy the album. I'm just starting to get into jazz and blues. I really like what I've heard so far. I'd love to have a Massassi jazz album.

I'm game. But only if it's good, black jazz, meaning apart from the theme everything should be pure improvisation, pure temperament. No scores, only schemes.

Why not? We already have some stuff recorded. I have them online here.

Perhaps more is necessary.

Cool idea!
I'm a jazz pianist, and I'd love to take part in this. Problem is I don't really have a descent way to record myself using an acoustic piano. I could always hook my keyboard into the computer and record, but it's not quite the same thing. I'll try to figure something out anyhow.

GoY, you are now my favorite person. What am I studying? Technically, I'm a music education major. But I'm really going for performance. Where? Well, I go to this small private school, down in the middle of Arkansas. . .

(As I mentioned earlier) YES!
I've played trumpet for years now, but I don't have anywhere to be able to record myself. I helped start an improv band at school, if we could do that kinda stuff it would be cool.

For the other trumpet players... what kind of instrument are you playing? I have a 30 year old Bach Stradivarius (Bb), it's ugly, but it plays so nicely.

Any post-production work needed, I can help with. Also, I have lots of Jazz friends in school, so if anyone wants actual musical (conter to the improv only idea) scores, I bet I can "find" some....

I've got a bunch of recording equiptment available that my band shares.. a 16 track recorder, a rack with tube preamps, and various mics. I play guitar.

If I could find some way to mix it all, I'd gladly take on the role of 'producer' for a couple songs, but we'd need to find a way to grab all the songs and put them on the mixer.

I play a brand spankin'-not-even-2-month-old Bb Stradivarius. Doesn't play as smoothly as yours, I know. But it's beautiful, and plays wonderfully.

Wow, that's awesome. Mine just got a nasty dent near the bell (I'm not sure why/how), but yeah, it plays nicely.

I play the sax; Tenor, mostly, and I've been getting into jazz improv recently. This sounds pretty cool, but I'm not sure how I'd record myself. Hmmmm, well, I'll think on it.

I soooo got the most awesomest deal when Mars Music was going out of business. Shure mic, usually $150 by itself, plus a cheap, but durable stand for like $70. So, now all I need is a converter for my computer.

Gonna need a few more instruments, hmm? Trumpets and guitars aren't the only thing to jazz.
2004-01-03, 8:07 PM #30
^Yep.

This is great. I'll wait a bit longer to see if anyone else shows up (mainly Murc, who's a trombonist, and Yecti). What I'm thinking is that people could just submit their small band stuff, and we (well, I) could compile it into an album, and then maybe we could do this big band thing (I think the horns are about covered, because we really only need one player per section, but the rhythm section is hurting - we've got to have a competant jazz bassist and percussionist).

Happening tunes, Heeb. Which instrument are you?

Shut up. I'm GOING to do this whether you like it or not.

There are more here if you should wish to see them. I highly recommend them as they are cheap in price but excellent in quality. All you have to do is plug you mic into the mixer and then plug the mixer into the line-in or mic-in on your computer. After that get yourself some recording software(such as N-Tracks which has a free trial and the full version is only $40) and you have yourself a small studio to use. Of course you could always get a more expensive mixer or software if you wanted, but IMHO, this is the best bang for the buck around right now. Hope I helped in your choices...

I play drum set. Unfortunately, I have little to no experience playing jazz. I'd be glad to do some auxiliary percussion though, if needed (and if I can't record properly).

I play Jazz Clarient almost exclusively, so I'm well versed in Jazz music. I practice all the time too, and am always lookign for new music I'm game.

If you want, I've written a piece for big band that we can use. I've currently got a big band that I lead working on it.
