The saga continues, still having problems with my computer speakers. Last time I thought there were making a hissing sound, but now I realize it's more like a buzzing. A friend told me that cleaning the contacts on the connections would solve that, but what should I use for that? I was thinking either a dry cloth or one with some isopropyl alcohol on it.

There also seems to be another problem that seems somewhat related. Every now and then it seems like I'm getting interference or just a heightened buzzing because the speakers make a sort of puffing sound at random intervals and it seems to just come and go as it pleases. Don't know what that's all about.

Any ideas?

You checked to make sure it was the speakers? If I connect my laptop to my hifi I get the same problem... With headphones or weak amps you don't notice the interference as much.

Use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts.
There are several possibilities for your problem:
-Your speakers may be recieving outside interference
-They may just be wearing out
-Your soundcard may be getting interference or wearing out, also. Have you hooked up the speakers to other things besides your computer?

Hmm.. now that I think about it go into the mixer and make sure you have things you aren't using muted. If the microphone jack is unmuted, even if nothing is plugged into it, you may get interference from that.

I used to have that problem with my mic, being unmuted. Then I figured it out and it helped a lot.
