Crowds can have extremely potent psychological effects. These effects can be seen in a large number of religions. You could give someone some powerful pain meds, and tell them their leg had been healed to a similar effect. While they might believe you for a while, at the end of the day they will still have a bad leg, and probably done more damage to it to boot.

My most recent ex actually watched those a lot and believed them. Then, she went away on a religious trip, came back, and totally flipped the **** out. Feels bad, man.
