Q&A with my new rig.

My i5 750 was doing perfectly fine, but I'm a baby and love spending money on computer things. So my brother gets that and I get:
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H Motherboard (Cheapest LGA 1150 board available, w/e it does it's job. UEFI is kinda cool)
Intel i5 4670k, barely overclocks at all (I'm at 4.00 stable from 3.5 stock.), and I really shoulda just saved 20 bucks and got a non- k model. But man, gotta have K.
Corsair 16gb (2x8) DDR3 1600 kit, "ValueSelect". I've gotten the cheapest ram possible for a decade now, always of this brand, never done me wrong. Running JK in a ramdisk is p.lol.
Samsung 840 SSD, 250GB. I was using this in my Macbook while I waited for Haswell to release, now it's in my desktop and holy damn is it amazing.
All in my old Antec 300 case. A good case

Still using my """old""" GTX 660 and Blu-Ray drive (lol physical media.)

Anybody got the lowdown on monitors? I would love to get a new one but have no idea what's good or not.

Have you tried restarting?

Nice. Damn my system is starting to feel a little old but I still cant justify that jump to Haswell. If you want to post some benchmark numbers, I'd be interested to see if my i5-2500k and GTX580 can hang with that system.

Honestly that's sorta my opinion on Haswell too. The IPC and GPU improvements look decent but because Intel went cheap with the TIM used between the lid and cpu the tempatures are awful. Most people are forced to settle for a ~400mhz overclock unless you de-lid or run a very nice water/peltier loop. Enthusiasts getting screwed again.

Also I just happened to notice Slickdeals has a IPS monitor deal on the FP right now... http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=60087194&postcount=2

I guess, but overclocking the clock barely does anything these days.
Also even overclocked my stuff runs 30'c idle it owns.

Monoprice.. monitor? I dunno man.

If they're like the Korean A- stock monitors that use the same panels as the 27" Apple and Dell displays, it'll be amazing. I have a Yamakasi Q270 and it's unbelievable for the price.

BTW, whatever you do, if you end up using dual monitors or more, don't use DisplayPort. By some stroke of genius, DisplayPort monitors will act as if they've been completely disconnected when turned off, resulting in all of your windows and **** moving all over the place as it adjust for the lost monitor. Every time you turn it off. It's ridiculous, and this is by design.

If you have a single monitor, it doesn't matter too much because generally stuff won't move around then.

I only use one and use DVI-D, dunno why I wouldn't use DVI-D, and only one because I dont really care.
Weird that the OS wouldn't just like, remember your settings for that.

Microsoft has, for some reason, been absolutely herp-derp with remembering those settings when anything changes. Also happens whenever I remote desktop into my computer. The taskbar moves, the icons move, the windows move (and dock in the wrong spots). Instead of just remembering where **** was and restoring it, it just leaves it like it was when I RDPed in.

RDP window resizing is so annoying. It's probably one of those things that's been a pri 5 feature request in Windows for the last decade.

It's probably made more difficult by the fact that a lot of applications probably lose their **** if Windows moves their windows on them. A lot of applications like to "dock" things or do their own ****ty window management, which would probably break if they fixed this.

Including MS Office :P

I'd be fine with breaking all docking possibilities to fix this ****. Although above all else, the most annoying thing is the taskbar moving. I always leave it on my secondary monitor, but if I RDP in, it's put on the primary and stays there. Thanks, Microsoft!
