i would say GBK's have more replay-value, but FGR's have less ludonarrative dissonance.

There are new elevators concepts that are maglev, doing away with cables and counterweights.

There are also hydraulic elevators irl. But they only go up to ~60 feet if I recall.

Ah, yes. The vacuum pod is an iconic part of sci-fi which I should have recalled.

Based on the sound effects that JK plays when the elevator moves, though, I'm guessing they were going for a mechanical design.

OTOH, in A New Hope, the lift tubes on the death star seemed fancier.

Do remember that most elevators in JK (or Star Wars games) in general are like this.
