Pete Rose: Hall of fame or not?
2004-01-06, 3:59 AM #1
Well, someone had to know this was coming sometime. Anyway, I think Pete Rose should be in the hall of fame. The Hall of Fame is how good of a player you are, not how good of a person. If it were that, then Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth should not be in there. And this "he disgraced the game" stuff I've been hearing is a load of crap if you ask me. The game has disgraced itself numerous times.(*cough1994cough*)Thoughts?

I dunno if cricket has a Hall of Fame... Well either way, Steve Waugh deserves to be in it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

GHORG, I beleive that was the time of the nice little lockout they had. Sucked. One of the reasons I don't like watching baseball anymore.

Pete Rose was banned from MLB in 1989 for illegally betting on MLB games. He was managing the Reds at the time. Prior, he was a manager/player for the Reds. He also holds the Major League record for career hits. He's now admitted to his mistake. Now he belongs in the Hall of Fame.

1994 was the first time the World Sereis was canceled due to anything but war.

1994 was not a lockout, it was a player's strike. The Royals were having a good season that year. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Anyway, he deserves to be in. He was promised that he would get in if he apologized, before the MLB changed commissioners.

I don't think he should. He's lied about it for so long, that it's sad really. He knew the consequences when he bet. Not only that, he lied about it for 15 YEARS! Maybe if he had come out and said he was sorry at the very beginning, I might feel different. But if it took him 15 years to own up to it, I don't think he really did. I think he only said 'sorry' to get in the HoF, not that he really meant it anyway.

The fact is, TONS of people illegally bet on sports. Would you ban Pete Rose for a speeding ticket? No. He is a great of the diamond, and what he does in his personal life really shouldn't affect that. I mean, if we judged the Clinton presidency on that...

Most people do, unfortunately.
