And because fringe opinions have already been legitimized!

I for one am excited to watch the clashes between right wing death squads and liberal protestors. Then the true leftists will be able to use the resulting power vacuum to seize the memes of production!

I originally thought a distrust in the media and government might lead people to make better choices in government. Turns out it just gives people ammunition to peddle baseless conspiracies.

I was hoping it would encourage people to dissolve the state, but I live in imagination land.

In Germany this actually led to the rise of a new right wing party "Alternative für Deutschland". One of their favorite words is "Lügenpresse", meaning "Lies-Media". Though as biased as the media often is I can't really blame them. But the unfortunate outcome is that they are just producing and facilitating their own lies.
Sorry for the lousy German

The average numbers for both GWB and Obama are skewed.

GWB highest approval rating was immediately after 9/11. His approval rating only went down hill from there to the point where he had the highest disapproval rating of all previous presidents listed.
Obama's average has been skewed by racial bigotry and things such as the "birth certificate" conspiracy which delegitimized Obama as President in the minds of whom now make up the majority of Trump supporters.

Also, in an election happening now, his average approval rating probably isn't as important as his current approval rating, which isn't bad.

Whoa, whoa. Those old whites dudes had their chance. We have to get through 8 years of Clinton, 8 of Michelle, then Chelsea, the Obama Girls, etc. The next 40 years of firsts are already spoken for.

Actually, I voted for Bill Clinton and vowed to protest vote Hillary if Jeb was the nominee.

I watched the Washington State Senate Debate yesterday evening. It was a night-and-day difference compared to the presidential debates. The two candidates were calm and both spoke intelligently (and I say this despite the fact that I strongly disagreed with one of them on most things).

I mean, let me be clear about this. You normally do not need to ask candidates whether they will consider their own defeat legitimate. The only reason this is a debate question is because Trump has insisted previously that it will not be.

For example, he has said that the only way he will lose Pennsylvania is by cheating. Clinton is well ahead of Trump in all PA polls, between 4 and 10 percent. What will Trump supporters think when he loses, though? He's already said that he's going to, and only because of fraud. Republican voters are going to be angry and they will believe that the election was stolen from them. Saying **** like this legitimizes fringe opinions and deeply divides the country.

I wish this was handled a bit more precisely. I mean, Gore contested the 2000 election result, and it was pretty reasonable for him to do so to a certain extent. I think it would be stupid to say that you will under no circumstances contest the results. The real question is whether you will accept the final ruling, which Gore did. I think what people are really worried about is that Trump will call foul without any evidence, and never accept the final ruling. One is reasonable, the other is a serious threat to national stability.

Uh, no. I guarantee that nearly all of the hard right wing people who hate him for his race or buy into birther-ism hated Bill Clinton as well. It's not like there's a big group of people out there who were going to approve of a democrat if only he wasn't black.

So could there be a possible Brexit-style upset (Globexit?) coming up?
