I'm yet to read his books, but I read a little about him, and he seems to have been very much a one love type of a guy.

I can easily imagine a future, should humanity survive, where killing an animal would be considered almost as immoral as killing a man is today.

It may sound cheesy, but it makes sense: if we can close our eyes on our constant skinning / killing of animals en masse, we can close our eyes on killing each other just as easily. Most people do.

Will everybody be a vegetarian in the future?

I read The Death of Ivan Ilyich. It's a good story, kind of has Nietzschean/Heideggerian vibes on finding meaning in life and living authentically. Though I found its message a little.. obvious? as in it wasn't life changing, but it was a good commentary on beliefs I had already developed.

I'd have to read more Tolstoy to fully back this claim but I came out feeling Tolstoy was more nuanced of a writer than Dostoevsky.

Thomas Eddison, Mahatma Gandhi, Bernard Shaw, Benjamin Franklin, Ralph Waldo Emerson to name just a few outspoken ones (as per the quotations website).

Also Hitler (as per Wikipedia), apparently because he was distressed by animals suffering. We humans are interesting creatures.

Checkov is cool, judging by the one story of his I'd read, The Cherry Stone. I don't know if there's an English translation, but it's about how this one dude got into a duel; his opponent missed, so the dude takes a rain check on his pistol shot.

And Alexander Pushkin to the Russian language is what William Shakespeare is to English.

Between everyone having similar ideas and everyone stealing, it's no wonder that 90% of everything is crap.

Take this story in Mike Resnick's Galaxy's Edge I accidentally stumbled into the other night. As the Sunlight Grabs Me by Rachelle Harp (http://www.galaxysedge.com/). Hmm. A pseudo-sentient flying war machine, called a Dragonfly, psy-linked with its pilot ...

... I wonder where I've heard that one before. :cool:

Realistically eating meat is immoral, but I just pretend I don't know that and eat meat anyway. I guess you could say I'm a man of contradictions.

Small doses of Koobie would be fine, if such a thing were possible. But it's just not possible for me to resist egging him on, and the more he responds the more I resent him (didn't Spook say something about how this place is basically a pub?).
