Looking into buying a new guitar...
2004-01-07, 12:54 AM #1
I'm sick of playing on my Squier, so I'm looking into a new electric for myself. I really can't spend too much over $200, but I found this:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040106134658067052017011685875/g=guitar/search/detail/base_pid/518280/
My friend got the epiphone les paul special II, which is a step down from this and was really happy with it, he played it more than his other more expensive guitar. Any opinions on this, or suggestions for other guitars in the price range?

For about 200 you could get your self a pretty decent Gibson SG second hand, or have a look for second hand Ibanez.

However, if you want a perfectly respectable guitar with plenty of features pickups and possibilities: Buy a Yamaha Pacifica. I bought one as a cheapy and its lasted ages, its a really good guitar!

You know, I reccommend looking at ESP's lower models, like the Ec-50, or maybe higher, like EC-200. ( http://www.espguitars.com )

I use an H-1000 myself, but I had a M-50 for a little while, and my rythm guitarist in Shadeye Recently bought a H-204 (discontinued model, but still a great guitar for the price he paid, 604$ CAD)

ESP guitars rule, check'em out.

My friend is selling his vintage Gibson SG for like $350. It only has one pickup and it's green with a black pickguard. I was going to buy it but I have to pay for studio time and a trip to Germany, so not enough money for Schmingies.

um... It's green.... one bridge pickup like I said, black pickguard. New Elixir strings I put on. Has a really nice tone, but like I said I prefer my strat because I'm more into reverb and not distortion so I gave it back to my friend.

I'll try to get a pic from him because he's still looking to sell it.

Found one, bad pick though, sorry:

Vintage? how old is it?
that looks just like the SG-X which I saw a few years ago for $300 in musicians friend.

If you search hard enough you could find a Gibson for $300-400 but but a Epi of the same price many serve you better.

I got a Epi Les Paul ES for $601 then afew months later (christmas) I put some Gibson humbuckers in it and now i have the Gibson sound for the epi price. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Search local pawn shops.
2 years ago I found a vintage bass for $217 and have yet to see it's equal.

Ya, by vintage I meant like I dont know how old but it's not new. So it probably is the one you saw in the mag... I feel cheated.
