Here's the line-up so far:

Bass/Alto/Find a drummer and bari player: Grasshopper4232
Guitar/Tenors: Me
Trumpets: Destroyer20
Trombones: A friend of mine
Piano: Snootle
Clarinet: Ramos?

Schming: Could you pick up some kind of converting plug for your microphone? I know we're all poor students here and so on, but there's a vocal feature I wanted to do...

The Charts are as follows:
  • The GeneralRamos Song
  • Return of the Shuffleupagus (heavy shuffle/blues)
  • The Stride (latin)
  • Hot it Up ("Second Line" New Orleans groove/swing)
  • Departures (straight 8ths/ballad)

Three of those charts are pretty obscure (Shuffleupagus, The Stride and Departures were all written by a former music teacher, but they're all winners). Twisted is out until proven otherwise by Schming or some other vocalist.

[Once all the positions are confirmed by people, I'll start emailing parts (scanned jpegs) and we can get this going.]

The recording order is as follows:

1.Grasshopper (bass and drums followed by the alto parts)
    2.Snootle (piano)
    3.Destroyer (trumpet section)
    4.Me (trombones/tenors and guitar)
    5.Soloists

Hopefully we can just burn through the charts in time for those constrained by time to get to solo - I'm mainly talking Destroyer here; if time is a huge factor, you might have to give up some solo opportunities, though if you can grab a flugel horn (or not. whatever) I'd like you to at least blow on Departures, which is a trumpet feature.

Oh yeah, and if your email is busted or otherwise different than what's listed in your profile, tell me now. Please.

Tracer, the problem with my keyboard is that it's kinda hard to articulate on it (keys aren't weighted enough), and the piano sound is a bit tinny. Other than that it's fine for recording.

Here, I recorded a quick tune using my keyboard so you can here the overall quality (and my playing):
The tune is Stella by Starlight

If you need a bass clarinet I would be willing to step in... I know I could play the Bari, but I dont have one, and have never actually played one, but the fingerings are VERY similar and the reed work is the same.

I did some arranging last night, I added some extra parts in the case that we get atleast two of each instrument (minus rhythm section). I think I can just print out the score, scan, save as JPEG and send.

NEED: 1 Tenor Sax
1 Clarient (me)
1 Trombone
1 Trumpet
1 Pianist
1 Drummer

Parts:
Piano
Rhythm Guitar
Bass
Drums
1st Alto
2nd Alto
1st Tenor
2nd Tenor
1st Trumpet
2nd Trumpet
Trombone
Clarinet

Out, you!

As for your stuff, Ramos, that's great. I didn't know you could record, but the more the merrier. I'm guessing your song is some kind of clarinet feature...

Snootle: You're hired.

And don't forget to tell me if you're comfortable improvising over chord changes (as opposed to just wanking on a cheat scale) so I can work out the solos. (I'm figuring Ramos and Snootle are, but I need to hear from the others. And Ramos, are we talking handwritten music here, or was it done on the computer? I have Sibelius, if that's your program.)

Tracer, how bout this... I've got an alto sax in my possession so I could do that, but I don't have a tenor sax. So, I could take one of the alto spots instead of the tenor.

As for the drum machine, it can be programmed to change grooves and stuff like that. The only set back is you can't program your own groove, you have to choose from a bunch of presets. If it were up to me I would find a real drummer. I've got a friend that could do it, I just don't know if he will.

[edit]Of course, I'm sure Flex has the ability to lay down a smooth jazz beat with his his stuff...just a possibility[/edit]

The whole section, eh? Well, I might be able to handle it. It will still be another week until I am back at school, with the ability to record. And I love to improv. So. . .yeah, ok. But you have to get everything to me quick. Once the semester gets going full swing, it'll be tougher for me to find a lot of spare time. Then again, no one sleeps in the dorms until 3 or 4 AM. . .

[edit] I was just thinking. . .I'm a trumpet player. That means I have the world's biggest ego. So to not handle the whole thing by myself would be to admit my weakness. Unless GoY or BV want to help out, I mean. heh. [/edit]

I could probably scrouge a decent microphone from somewhere - though I don't know how 'good' it will sound. The problem is converting a proper microphone jack into a minijack socket: those sort of convertors are far too rare in my opinion.

Also: I play the drums - but I prefer doing the trumpet for Jazz.

Not a clarinet feature, but I did hijack what was once a tenor solo. Works better on clarinet. Music is typed up, so it should be pretty easy to read [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]. I should have it ready by Wed or Thurs

I can play Bari... I played it last year in the musical. I am the instrument equipment manager at my school, so I have access to all the instruments I want... :-D How difficult is the part?

I also have Finale if that helps anyone, I dunno how.

I also play the clarinet, from Eb to EEb contrabass clarinet, so any help needed there I think I can fill in.

Sorry, there's no cello position in a standard big band, which is what we're dealing with here. However, you're more than welcome to contribute to the album in a solo or small band format.

I appreciate it, but for the rhythm section to work drums and bass need to be together...ideally the whole section would reherse together, but we can pull it off with the bare minimum.

Here's the deal: I'll send Grasshopper the pertinant parts tomorrow (since time is a factor, I think I'll just pull an executive decision and grab a ballad and a latin that I know sound great). He'll record, send it back to me, and I'll send it off to whoever's next.
