Heh. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Whats even more interesting, though, is the fact that the blue spots on the sundial appear red in that photo. Reason? A red filter was applied over the image. Why? Because thaty photo wasnt taken on Mars. It was taken on Earth.

If they put a red filter over something blue, shouldn't it turn out purple?

To allow for fine-tuning of the colorization of the photographs. Since sunlight scatters differently through the Martian atmosphere than Earth's, colors tend to look different from one place to another. With a color "target", whose color is already known in a terrestrial environment, the colors can be adjusted in the image to approximate what we would see if we were standing on Mars, or, for that matter, Earth.

give it up jeeze, the lander is on mars. i know it might be far fetched if humans were goin but its a machine. if we're capable of sending machines so far out that they can graph n map 100's of OTHER galaxies, and have machines with technology that can do that so well. i think we can build a machine that can go to a planet next door.

Same thing was said about the moon, it being faked and all, but every far-fetched piece of evidence these people come up with has an explanation. Honestly, it's tiring hearing the same conspiracy theories over and over again.

Don't mean to be all conspiracy like but couldn't anyone just make that up?

I mean that i could claim that theres a galaxy which is shaped as a star a 29847.2 million light years away from here.

He read this off Slashdot, being a festering hole of OSS.

Anyway, the only problem is they don't check anything on that site, and someone later explained why it is the way it is in quite depth.

It's red because of the color of the sky. Look at shadows outside when it's a cloudless day - what color are they? Blue, or at least, they have a blue tint to them.

Good.

Whats so good about living on Mars? Would you rather live on a beatiful planet with WATER and an ATMOSPHERE and other life, on a rocky wasteland with nothing to see or look at where you need to where a suit to go outside?

Well as an ammature astronomer, i can tell you when i look at those maps to know which way to point my telescope to look where. *gasp* it tells me where what im looking for is. yeah i guess they coulda spend millions of hours making the maps here from earth, but i doubt they did that simply because no one has the time.

That pic of the millions of galaxies is just awe inspiring. And some people know there are billions of stars for each of the billions of galaxies, and still say we're the only intelligent life?
