maybe its just us girls then, but i agree with elana completely [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

my cousin has two little daughters which have the attention span which bunnies have with their mates. its extremely brief n it jus comes n goes :P

point being, im gettin the little ones into lotr, i read the book to them whenever i visit n its sort of what we do, but we've read the first one, and they fell saleep through the movie. i really think if they had the dolls (rather than the action figures which are plastered to a base), they'd play with it, n i could tell them the story. it might be selling out, but it'd help me out :P

"For shame mattel. You've taken one of the greatest epics in history and made it into a barbie doll!! Don't you even care that barbie stands for a materialistic snob and that Aragorn is no pampered "Ken"? Arwen may be a princess, but she is loyal to her man and Aragorn may be a king, but it is he unique qualities as a friend and ranger that make him so great. If I was ever given this set as a gift, I would personally burn it and dispose of the ashes. Lord of the Rings is no barbie doll matter. It is that of friendship, loyalty, strength, and honesty. For shame. "

That pretty much sums it up.

To be fair, there's been so much marketing and licensing done with the LotR stuff that Tolkein was probably spinning in his grave long before this...

I think Ellesar's armor looks cool. But that's got nothing to do with the Ken doll, really.

I don't see anything wrong with LotR merchandise being released in one of America's most traditional collectibles. Mattel has released some awesome special edition Barbies. There has been a lot of Barbie crap over the years too but these look to be well done.

I used to know some people who had scores of die-cast painted lotr figures, and this massive table-top panorama upon which we re-enacted many times the battle of helm's deep.. it was a truly beautiful thing.
