The Triplets of Belleville

Have any of you seen this wonderfully weird movie? It is animated, and it is more expericenced than watched. It is French, but there is about two lines of dialogue, so language isn't a problem.

It is the story of a gandmother and her dog, who try to rescue her grandson from mobsters in Belleville, which is a stylized version of New York. They meet up with the titular triplets, who help to try to save her grandson.

The movie is extremely odd; I have never seen a movie quite like it. But I enjoyed it a lot, and if you can find it, and are in the mood for something a bit, off, I recommend seeing it.

It was broadcast here in the UK over Xmas, although it went under the name of "Belleville Rendez-vous", I thought the amount of thought and design that obviously went into it were incredible. The style was wierd yet seemed to make perfect sense, like the way the mafia members would merge together, or the way the cyclists always seemed to be likened to racehorses. As for the storyline, I don't know where the hell they got the idea for it, especially the chase sequence, but its one of the most original stories I've seen in a long time.
