Yea, it sucks!
I just finished the book and it was horrible! I'm also not planning on seeing the movie, because if the book sucked the movie will suck more...especially because it has Brad Pitt in it.

No Super, I really did just finish reading the book, I hated it.
I'm seeing if anyone is with me, and apparently no one is.

The movie was great, and the book was great in a different way. It was very light on description, as though the story were being narrated.

Obviously, you must now die for your crimes of taste.

The Hollywood relationship between books and movies is less consistent than a random number generator. Denouncing one because of the other is like saying the NBA sucks because the Clippers are a **** team.

Indeed. The book was much darker and not as outright comedic as the film, but they're both great.

He means the other book by Chuck Palahniuk (which is pretty similar to Fight Club in many ways, though I've heard most of his work is samey). But watching the TV show would make a good punishment for his lack of taste. Remember opinions that differ from mine are WRONG and must be STAMPED OUT...

So nobody's going to explain why they like it? So far, I haven't gotten an answer from anybody, which is a bit disappointing.

Didn't Chuck aid in writing the script for the movie? Or something around there?

Anyway, I remember him saying or reading somewhere that he was very pleased with how the movie went.

The only real difference I noticed between the movie and book is that, in the book, Jack was a bit more accepting of things like Project Mayhem.

Listen not to CookedHaggis. He may be cooked pig innards, but I suspect that's he full of bull, too. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

You missed that the ending was completely different and changes the tone of the story completely? :P

Fight Club the movie was rather good; it was hilarious in parts. I've never read the book; I wouldn't go out and buy it, but I would read it if someone gave it to me for X-mas or something...

Ironic that you have yet to explain why you didn't like it yourself. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I havent read the book, but I love the movie because I love any moves with huge twists at the end that you didnt see coming, or that you knew something was coming but you werent sure what. Plus it was just as entertaining watching the movie the second time and even third times, picking up on everything that you had missed before.

Fight Club is one of my favorite movies.
As for why, I'm not sure. something about the violence, cinamatography(sp?), and the story just rubs me the right way.

I havent read the book so I can't give any comparison.

I have the DVD and in the comentary by Chuck Palahniuk, he did say that he like the movie more than his book.

Don't forget the mid-air plane collision and the final gunshot at the end of the movie. That was cool.

The book sucks because it doesn't have a Pixies song at the end. It probably would have been okay anyway, but the movie just outclassed it so much right there.

Project Mayhem is much more detailed in the book, as is the injuries sustained to the narrator (the book's much more graphic...hole in the cheek anyone?). Tyler's also much more willing to do anything in the book (the fact that the line "Tyler's whole murder-suicide thing" is changed to "Tyler's whole control-demolition thing" in the film is pretty telling). Plus there's the whole thing with the narrator's boss (Father-figure/murder). Oh and as Matt said, the difference in the endings totally changes the tone.

Actually, Chuck is only a decent author with a few ideas and a tubful of luck. I just wanted to mention death by sodomy.

Well, the main reason I didn't like it is because the writing was horrible and choppy and the dialogue seemed half-assed. The story was merely ok, not anything to rave about.
No, I'm not trying to be different and no I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just curious as to what people see in this book.

You can't get hung up on the writing when asking why people like books, because the actual style doesn't matter - it's the ideas that count. Fight Club would have just been a mediocre book that never sold well if some producer/screenwriter/whoever hadn't decided that it was a great idea.

It's the same case with Phil Dick novels. He was kind of a lousy writer, but it doesn't really matter.
