JK CTF -- What would make it better and more fun to play?

This thread is mostly posted so I can get an idea of the Ideal CTF level. I myself do not really like that the flag respawns in the same spot 24-7. The Challenge at Nar Shaddaa is ok in my opinion since it's bigger and not symmetrical, but the other 2 LEC CTF levels are generally too monotonous to play. I would have maybe 3-4 places ("bases") at least for the flag to respawn, and you have to take the enemy flag back to the "base" which your flag has respawned at.

Maybe a variety of team skins would help it, too (ie: a switch in the lobby area changes the skin your character will be using once they enter the game)

Does anyone else have any suggestions to add that might improve ctf?

Really good sniping, its what i like best, and am best at.
Personally, i think Nar Shaddaa is the best CTF level.

I would love to play Nar CTF (the large version) sometime with as many players as possible. Its been ages since I played that map.

What would have made JK CTF better? More people that play it.

If the flags are constantly visible on the map, even if people are carying them. (is it already like this? i never really got into CTF.)

You know what all of JK needs, period?

Randsaber physics.

Well, for me, I'd say:

-a 'single flag CTF' version
-Red vs BLUE or GREEN
-Earthy looks instead of the typical boxy buildings. My ideal CTF would be in a mine. I'd say it's best to suit CTF levels for about 4-10 players.

My old mod, Rogue Squadron CTF has support for this. Just run it and play any CTF level. They all use the same jumpsuit, but you'll notice each head is different, and there are male/female players. Feel free to use the code to create levels with custom skins.

JK CTF would be fun to play if it was possible to have a game with more than 4 people without two or more players being unable to see each other.

you could do yourself a favour and try and find out what made the old ctf levels good. there's one clan that still plays CTF on the zone, forget their name, phoenix and some other people were in it, might have been VDS

or you can just do what massassians have done for years, make pretty levels that don't have good gameplay and then complain that "no-one plays the level, stupid zoners"

Make it so the flag isn't in the flag carrier's way when he/she looks up in 3rd person.

If there was a decent sniper rifle like the one in MotS, that may not be such a bad idea. Sadly, most of the ones created for JK have been decent at best.

Message me on AIM (MentatMM) some time, my clan and I play 2v2/3v3 C@NS or Fusion every Saturday night at 9PM Est (if we don't have enough, you may be able to get in).

Although there aren't many people that actively play CTF these days, there are still a few that play it religiously (fewer that don't use Luna's CTF hacks). I can remember a time back when TF and ETI were still active in the community and we could get CTF games going 24 hours a day, but those days are gone.

The flags aren't visible on the map when a player is carrying it. That would be a very bad idea. Part of the strategy involved in levels like C@NS and Fusion is camping and ambushing. Take that away and you might as well be playing JO/Q3 CTF (not to be confused with Q3 CCTF which was great).

I've been playing 3v3 Fusion for years and have never had a problem like that. Sounds like something not related to JK or CTF to me.

There are too many great things to mention. If you need examples of what players consider to be the best CTF levels...

-Challenge at Nar Shaddaa (C@NS)
-Team Fusion CTF Pack (Fusion, although Coret is fun as well)
-Ground Zero II
-Reactor CTF deserves an honorable mention

There are also a few good underground maps that aren't listed on Massassi, but that's a good thing. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] If Purity would finally release Water Treatment CTF there'd be another map to add to that list. :/

Amen. The Massassi CTF Pack was a decent attempt, but only one of the levels attracted the hardcore players (Mandos). The levels were fun, but there wasn't much depth to the gameplay and most of the authors left out many of the elements that make CTF in JK truly unique. The pack was an excellent way to get new players to try CTF though, which was a good thing.

All of that being said, I think it's a good thing that someone is considering making another CTF map, I just think that it's important not to overlook the fact that JK CTF was popular amongst the hardcore community for a reason (even PC Gamer once commented in one of the Obi Wan preview magazines that CTF is what made JK so great).

Looking forward to see what you come up with...

The next time I release a CTF map, I'm going to concentrate more on gameplay. The previous ones I made were just messing around. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I got a good idea, although im not sure if its included as an academy thing or not. You could make one flag in a castle-like fortress, and have one team assault the fortress trying to take the flag (make it really hard to get) and one team defends. after a set time limit the teams switch positions, and the now attacking team has to be the other teams score in the smae amount of time. (might not be doable as aCTF level, you might have to make a whole new gametype, or you could position the attacking teams flag in a rock or something so no one could get it, and have already sset rules for the server its on.
