Well, I just put in my new Radeon 9800 and everything is running great until I try to join a JK game. When it finishes loading the level it just crashes to desktop. Does anyone have an idea what might cause this?

Perhaps that you're using a graphics card that is millenia beyond the game? I know that my GeForce4 won't run Hexen, and no amount of driver tinkering has been able to fix it. It's a sign that you have a game that's too old. Get a crappier computer for playing JK and other old games. I had a 120 mhz computer in my basement that I used for JK and Space Hulk until it caught on fire.

Ditto. As someone stated above, you need to download the latest drivers. If you have the latest drivers, come back and we can give you 999 other things to do.

I just reinstalled the new 3.10 drivers and it didn't work. JK, Vice City, and GTA 3 all didn't work. HELP!

Start>run>dxdiag
Click OK
Hit the Display tab.
Tell me if any of the acceleration's are turned off. (DirectDraw, Direct3D, AGP)

If it doesn't say Enabled, its off.

I just got a 9600, and I had the same problem. Before you go into the actual game, go into the setup screen from the main menu. Check out the video options, pick your resolution and hit apply. I guess JK needs the reconfigure, even indirectly, when a new card is installed.

Do they minimize? Or just not start up at all? If they just minimize, turn off any firewalls/virus scanners you may have on, and try it again. (you can try both just disabling it, and if that doesnt work, then closing them completely.)

There is a known issue with Vice City and GTA 3 (this is also in Vice City's readme) where the game has issues with driver changes as the game does not properly regenerate some cache files. This is *NOT* ATI driver related. Look at the readme. Also try running the game in Windows 2000 comp. mode.

i have this problem with VC and GTA3 but for some reason they work on other acounts on my computer WTF!

I'm not running XP, I'm runing ME, and they worked with my old GeForce 3.
Edit: Ok, I removed the save game files and the game starts up fine now. To bad I don't get to keep my saves, but whatever. Thanks for everyone's help!

You may need to change your operating system... ME tends to have issues with new cards... its of course your choice you maybe able to fix it but an upgrade couldn't hurt. Again its your choice I don't want to give you bad advice.
