I've known of this game for a LONG time (10 years) that I still play today (mostly edit now, but hey...). It's called One Must Fall: 2097. This is an old DOS game from 1994 (shareware version dates back further).
It's a 2-player fighting game like Mortal Kombat. It's now freeware and available at a lot of places, though I recommend the following site for all OMF stuff:
X-bot's Omf Universe
Note: If your operating system doesn't have DOS installed, like Windows 2000, (and no, Command Prompt doesn't count) then don't expect to have any sound except for that annoying PC Speaker.
The pic I showed makes a good wallpaper, too.
This game is now legally declared freeware by Epic Megagames (it's designing company), so download the game and post what you thought of it here. Or, if you already have it, etc, then you can talk about it here.

Never played it, but I remeber that robot fighting game that was on the 3DO, Rise of the Robots or something like it. What a crappy game that was

BEST GAME EVER. I loved it. So much. Nova was my favourite, he was so cool.

I loved that game! I kinda liked how there was some resemblance of a story in SP mode for each character, and tournament mode was incredible addictive. I remember that I created the ultimate fighter with everything maxxed, including a Nova robot.

I had a copy of that game that I picked up along with like 12 other games at a computer store a few years ago, but I oculd never get it to work with out running at speeds upwards of a million mph.

Yes! I loved that game. The Jaguar ruled.

And btw I know they were working on a 3d version with fancy graphics.. not sure what became of it.

Milano + Electra = non-stop fun.

I remember the story-mode being somewhat fun too. Mysterious subplots, conspiracies and one alien.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

I think they are making a new version of that game. One Must Fall: Battlegrounds.

I heard a lot about OMF:BG too. On the Epic website (omf.com or epic.com or something) they claim it to be in stores and on sale, or you could buy it at their site. It looks great, too. I only wonder if my PC can handle it (it has trouble running JO sometimes).
I last checked the X-bot web site a couple months ago, but it has added a number of things. Last night, I saw robot and pilot bios from the manual and some other stuff, but in color and with pics. I just d/led the video recordings last night and played them with the OMF.exe program. Very interesting.
In any case, I recommend this game to ANYONE, especially those who like these types of games (like me!).
My pilot-robot combinations include:
Angel, Jean Paul - Shredder, Electra, Shadow, Katana
Can anyone beat the game on ULTIMATE? (I can [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] ; kinda hard sometimes). I expect some yes's.

Mikus, press the escape button just as/after it says FIGHT!. You can turn down the speed here. On newer machines, the top speed is faster than light, but on older and slower machines (like my win95 one I use for DOS games) the top speed is about 1/4 - 1/3 of the top for other OS like win2k.

Actually, I thought of something easier. At the main menu, go to gamplay (options menu) and turn down the speed there.

I used printscreen and then pasted in photoshop.

I couldn't use printscreen to copy it unless I paused the game first. I began to wonder how you did it, because I've been trying printscreen for a while (in DOS games) and just couldn't get it to work. I then assumed that you couldn't do it in DOS.

Now, after all that nonsense I just typed, here's how I took a screenshot in OMF2097:
1. Press the [pause break] button at the point you want your shot
2. Press [PrintScreen]
3. Exit or minimize OMF and open an image editing program (MSPaint works, too)
4. Use Ctrl+V to paste your screenie

NOTE: you might not have to pause the game first to take a screenie. That's just how I did it the first time.

Thanks to Flexor, I have become even more powerful! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] Thanks.

OH yeah... I LOVED that game! I used to own that game back in the good old days of gaming. I sure am looking forward to the sequel that is being worked on (it's called OMF: Battlegrounds). My favorite robot was the Shadow because it had the greatest combos.

Yep, I downloaded that program and it works great on my system. Thanks for mentioning it Mega as I was disappointed before that I had to play with no sound. With VDMsound, it works perfectly now.
