Worst covers ever
2004-01-11, 10:49 AM #1
Me and my friend were discussing the worst musical covers...
You know how it goes, a band do a cover of an old song because it's easier than writing your own. Saddest thing about this is that people often keep it quite that it's a cover and thus make it out as there own work.

Korn - One ( Metallica )
Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes (The Who)
Limp Bizkit - Sober (Tool)
Tori Amos - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana)
Avril Lavinge - Chop Suey (System of a Down)

Does anyone else hate the fact that people make crappy covers of good songs? Or even worse make crappy covers of songs that were bad to start with?

What other covers suck?
I'm just sticking with songs I liked in the first place but it doesn't really matter.

You must be mistaken. This thread is for the "worst covers ever", not the "BEST. COVERS. EVER."

Seal did a Reggae cover of Lips Like Sugar by Echo and the Bunnymen. I haven't heard it, but I'm positive it sucks.

Here's my list:

1. Johnny Cash - One (U2)
2. Howie Day - Help (Beatles) - ok, it's not bad, but it just sounds weird acoustic with no back-up singers
3. KMFDM - Mysterious Ways (U2)
4. Somebody did an awful cover of Uptown Girl awhile back... forgot who.

and the most adulterated cover ever:

5. Noel Gallagher - Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen, in which case, the Buckley version is the best)

Anything Britney Spears or any other pop trash teen crap has done to a perfectly good song.

I heard the Avril cover live in Boston. It wa very long and drawn out and just as incomprehenisble. I didn't like.

Marilyn Manson butchered "Highway to Hell"
...and the Osborn kid's massacre of her dad's "Changes."

I kinda like them, but Pantera did a bad job on "Cat Scratch Fever," not really a great song to begin with, but...

I liked Behind Blue Eyes, though I hate Limp Bizkit. I'd have to hear the original.

The best, in my opinion, was Nirvana's cover of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World."

I must never hear Avril's covers or I will destroy.

I thought Behind Blue Eyes was decent enough. Limp Bizkit is major suckage though. That cover is the best I've ever heard them do.

Tori Amos should be shot at point blank with an RPG launcher. If I go any further I'd get censored.

Avril Lavinge (lmao, I typed "Latrine" just now...) should also be shot. She can't sing, never could sing, and never will be able to sing. Chop Suey is a great song. You can't have some really lame teenage pop singer redo it. It just doesn't work.

Anyone who thinks Limp Bizkit's version of Behind Blue Eyes was anything but blasphemy has the worst taste in music ever and I hope that I never meet them. It's The Who. The Who! It's Limp Bizkit. Limp Bizkit!
Enough said.

Basically anything on the radio. There's a shockingly awful version of that "I don't have enough now I want my share" song (which was awful to begin with) by that Afro-Man (having an afro outside of a 70s blaxploitation film is just pointless) that won Australian Idol (plus he's a bit of a chump).

Also apparently there's this creature called "DJ Sammy" that likes to take classics and murder them, such as Don Henley's fantastic "Boys of Summer".

Are you kidding? That's by far superior to the drunken rambling of Cobain.
2004-01-12, 4:28 AM #25
Actually, here's time when I have to say Cobain made the song. I heard Tori Amos' version on Organic X, a Sunday morning radio program on the local rock station that plays more mellow music, and it was worse than the original.

Also, another suck cover is Metallica's cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Let's see...

DJ Quicksilver - Equinoxe 4
I hate this trance version of the electronic heaven by JMJ. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] It doesn't have anything of the original magic of analog synthesizers left, only digital, digital, digital, crap, crap, crap. I don't want to hear any of JMJ's songs sound trance or techno, during the times of analog synths everything was better.

Anyone who thinks Kurt Cobain sucked is just afraid to like something that was popular.

That's fine, though. Its just your missing out, because a lot of popular stuff is good. If you listen to enough Nirvana, you'll see why it was popular.

I dislike Cobain because he couldn't write, couldn't sing, couldn't play, whined a heap, and singlehandedly killed off actual rock by luring all the braindead sheep out there into clamouring for more of the same for the next decade...
