Yup, hard to believe isn't it, but let's have an historical think about it now. (I've been revising history all day and it occurred to me.)

• Spain was embroiled in civil war in 1937 over Communism.

• France at one time or another (I know less about this) was on the brink of Communism.

• Had the Kommunist Partei Deutschland (German Communist Party) done well, or had Hitler been the true Socialist his 'German National Socialist Worker's Party' made him out to be, Germany could easily have gone Communist.

• Russia we all know about anyway.

So what if eh? What if the Nazi-Soviet pact of 1939, perhaps teamed with Spain and France, had really created a Communist Europe? Would the world as we know it have been very different?

Let's hear more about France, I don't get it.

Second: Hitler absolutely hated communism and marxism, because it propagates union of classes, not union of nation as Hitler wanted.

If I recall, for a long time there were several small Communist communites located in rural France. I dont know if they are still there but I know at one time they were.

True Tenshu, but I'm just saying:

• Spartacists (Communists) were a powerful force in Germany in the 20's.

• The KPD (Kommunist Partei Deutschland) was reasonably powerful, especially in the late '20s.

• Had Anton Drexler remained head of the Nazi's, they would have been more socialist.

If he had remained the head of the party they may not have come to dominate the country like they did. Don't underestimate the charisma of Hitler. He was great at getting the people fired up with his speaches.

True - though Hitler was put in charge of propaganda and such - had he not outsted Drexler they might still have done it... but then that's not like Hitler is it?

Watch the Second episode of Sliders, (second half of the pilot) where they land in Communist America.

On that world, we lost the Korean War, and the Domino Effect actually happened. America stayed Capitalist, but eventually crumbled because the rest of the world went Communist, so they couldn't trade with anyone or anything, and then we had no choice but to become Communist.
And then they were wandering around the streets, and it gave an interesting representation of what a Communist America could be like.

Don't talk about the domino effect. I've had enough of that in History.

But yeah... Communist Britain would probably be very similar to Capitalist Britain - dull, grey, wet and miserable.

During teh depression France had a very powerful Communist party, infact. Communism was big in many of the coutnries decimated by the war. America had a good numebr of communists too. Remember those good old trials we had in the 50s? Yeh, turns out that most of those people brought forth by McCarthy actually were Commies. Go figure.

We still have a good number of Commies. I count myself amongst them, well... Sort of... I am a Marxist, not a communist... (Actually im not even a FULL Marxist, but it’s the closest name for what I really am)
Most "communists", Like most "anarchists", are usually just people revolting against the norm and taking an extremist name for shock purposes, then again history is full of people like that...

A 3 man communist cell attempted to blow up hitler in 1937. Hitler shortened his speech that particular night and escaped unscathed...

We could have ended up with the Red Alert Scenario that way...

Yeah. But in that case, Hitler was erased from time by Einstein.

I've always wondered: why do communist parties even run for political office here in the U.S.? Do they think they can win???

Not necessarily, but look at the last election as it were, the green party got enough votes to keep Gore from winning, i'd say that's an important contribution at least.

Communism pretty much gave up winning legally(ballots as opposed to otherwise) after a point.

The US takes enough care of workers to keep the party weak. Like how Napolean combatted them by "taking the wind out of their sails" by fixing abuses thay used to get people riled up.

It's pretty much wasting time. Ideally the same two parties shouldn't win all the time, but that's America, what can I say.
