Of disposing of broken monitors and buying new ones

Well, I just bought this nice NEC 19" only like a year and a month ago and it is flat out dying. Everytime I turn the monitor on it takes like 7 minutes (and this time is increasing every time) before it will even display the top half of the screen properly.

The horizontal scan lines are all skewed vertically and come across diagonally with black space in between, and after a few inches of this they bunch up at the top into a mostly white blob.. it slowly corrects after 7 minutes. I called NEC and they told me I'm a month out of warranty > [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Needless to say I'm pissed because it's a nice monitor and I spent alot of money buying it and it died in only a little over a year. So now I need to get rid of it and buy a new one for some ~$230.

So I have two questions:
1) What are you supposed to do with dead monitors? Crush them and throw them in the dumpster?

2) Do you guys have any recommendations for 19 inch monitors?

You're no supposed to throw them in the garbage. Money making scam, if you ask me. But, you could probably break it up into smaller pieces and throw it away.

Don't ask why, but I've got a loader and I could crush it with the bucket and then run over it a few times.

I hear it's not environmentally safe to throw monitors out. Have it recycled.

You could get it repaired for a lot less than a new monitor...

Edit: If you can find a repairshop that isn't out to steal your money.
