Unfortunately, you can't just land anywhere and get away with it. I mean, it's so damn hard to make it land and not totally destroy it. It bounces on airbags for a long time, bouncing up to or over 1 km of where it first hit. It makes it really hard to go anywhere but someplace smooth.

Actually, they said they were in a really good spot. NASA claimed that "this is exactly where they wanted to be". Or something. I can't wait until it's able to get off the landing pad.

Well considering it has to be processed through a bunch of computers before they see the picture...it is. It's not like the lander can shoot back a roll of film for development. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Looks like CG, eh? When were you on Mars to know what it really looks like?

Honestly. Conspiracy? Gimme a break. They'd have to make sure hundreds of thousands of workers never got out a single word, and that's impossible. Someone always tells their wife, and then they tell their friend, and it just spreads. It only takes one person. All set up, fake? So yes, they filmed it all here on Earth, they ordered millions of dollars of parts and equipment...Or they just landed on Mars.

wait wait wait wait... Spending a few million dollars on photographs suddenly makes less sense than spending 820 million dollars on the real thing? Right.

I meant something about parts for building what we've seen, but it doesn't really fit everything else.

But really, the sheer size of something and all the people involved, keeping them all quiet would be impossible. Just the nature of it being a hoax in the first place is rather ridiculous I think. It seems more realistic that they just actually did it.
