Is it possible or likly to damage any parts of a computer by using a processor motherboard and memory combination that is incompatable? Here is what I used:

D865PERL mobo
p4 1.5 GHz 400 FSB w/256mb L2 cache
333MHz PC-2700 DDR RAM

All three parts are incompatable. Is it possible I damaged them by putting them together? Because now the motherboard won't work with the correct parts.

Edit: Or is it more likly that the motherboard was bad from the start?

The only thing i know is Ram will only run as fast as your bus speed is. But You can try that processor on the motherboard but all processors use a different Socket Type SO if it's not compatible it just won't be able to connect at all so yea [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

I did try it. And my motherboard is dead. I'm just wondering if I caused it or if it was DOA. It has the correct socket, it just isn't officially supported. The the RAM is too high of a speed for the BUS.

Meh, not officially supported just means the factory hasnt tested that mobo/proc combo yet.

And memory of a high clock speed will simply downclock itself to match the host speed.

Thanks. The only oher thing that concerns me is that my CPU dosn't work even in a different computer. Now, I know it used to work, but it has been in storage for a while. I think I'll get one of those PCI diagnostic cards.

Also- it has been more than 30 days, so I can't simply return the board, but Intel will still honor the 3-year warrenty, right? (I neer really read the details on RMAing it.) Yes, I did buy it online. *hits self*

You will have to remail it yes, and they will then run diagnostics on your board, see if it's repairable then if not send a new one. Yea it sucks and it could take a LONG time to get that mobo back.

(you should crack it in half so it's obviously broken hehe)

Thanks. One more thing. Is it even remotly possible to damage hardware by using incompatible parts? I really need to know that, because otherwise I'll have to buy a new processor.
