I'm trying to find a decent car stereo system, complete with the head piece, speakers, amp, possible subs, and a wiring kit for a decent price range. If anyone knows any good sites or anything I'd like some links. Thanks!

I don't keep up with this, but I bought an expensive SONY CD deck from Best Buy years ago and never had anything but problems with it. It would take CDs and refuse to eject them, so they replaced it under warranty, then about 6 months later the volume control stopped working, had to replace it again under warranty.

I've also owned a Clarion deck, which is by far my favorite (bought it damn... about 8 years ago now! and my brother still uses it in his car). I also now have a pioneer which I really like, except the "flip down" face which really gets annoying (it's hard to put on after I take it off).

My Jeep has a "premium infinity sound system" which it came stock with (as a dealer option, I'd guess - I bought it used). It's got an amp under the back seat, 1 round speaker in each door, two 6x9s in the back, and two tweeters up front in the doors. Sounds really nice.

Even "premium" stock factory speakers are usually not as good as high-quality aftermarket speakers. The reason why is b/c stock speakers are made out of really cheap materials, such as having paper tweeters and woofers.

Granted, stock speakers give you sound that you can listen to without grating your teeth in agony, but if you want minimal distortion at louder volumes and more accurate reproduction of sound overall, definitely check out good aftermarket equipment. Kenwood makes good speakers, I recommend starting with them.

In my car I have:
Alpine CDA9805 Head Unit, which I bought new off EBay for $140 or something.
BOSS 600W Sub Amplifier(bridged).. it's alright, I don't remember how much I paid.
Kicker 400x4 Amplifier.
2-MA Audio 6x9's.
2-Kicker 3x5's or something like that.
1-Kicker Solo Baric L7 12" Subwoofer.

My car sounds damn good, and I like Solo Baric subs because they produce incredible bass on rap songs and such, but are still tight enough to handle death metal drumming. My Mom said she can literally hear my sub from 2 miles away.

do not buy stuff from stores unless it'sa head unit! Stuff at bestbuy and circuit city is all the cheapest junkiest speakers the big companys manufacturer.

I highly recomend buying stuff off the internet. www.ikesound.com is a good place.

Also find someone that works for Crown Audio. They are the parent company of JBL and Infinity Audio Systems and every spring and christmas Crown has a 80% off emplyee discount.

So far i got.

2x Infinity Kappa 6x9 3-Way (Uber awesome!)

2x Infinity Kappa 5.25 2-Way ( Good door speaker they don't distort and sound like all other "good" sound systems people say they have.)

2x Infinity Kappa Component Tweaters (JESUS THESE ARE NICE)

JBL 300.4 Power Series 4 Channel Amp ( 89.7 Watts x 4 RMS) @ 710 Watts Max
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ULTRA AWESOME AMP
i use this to just run my speakers HEHE.

i paid $340 for eveything.

Thanks for the advice all, and thanks for the link Twisted, im checking this stuff out. Im still pretty new to all this, and i dont have but around $120 saved right now, but im not buying yet anyways so by the time i do i should be able to get a decent system.

Oh yeah, if anyone could give me a basic explaination of the must haves for a whole new system, itd be great. I know kinda sorta whats goin on, but im not doubting any of you know more than me. What things should i specifically look for to create a system that everything will sound clear on, as well as when turned up loud.

In mine I got a Panasonic 200 Watt head unit, with a 450 Watt Kenwood Amp and a 12 inch Sub at 350 Watts. It just goes BOOM. And it only cost like... 200 dollars [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] Plus I got it all set up for free.

If you want one of the best brands, go with Clarion. Unfortunately, they're pricey.

Clarion is the only brand i havent dealt with, my dad has had Alpines, which are pretty awsome, and Kenwoods i know are decent as well.

there was this really awesome head unit i saw that was like 75x4 for like $120 im trying to find that i know i saved the link somewhere

Other than that, for a descent good system, 3Way 6x9 Is always a good idea for the rear

and a component Mid bass and Tweater for your doors is a pretty basic setup.

It may seem like it's worth it to save money and buy something a little cheaper. For now you could simply upgrade your headunit that will give you the most immediate sound qaulity improvment, and anything 200watts and up should be more than adequit.

The next thing on your to-upgrade list should be a larger speaker. Most door speakers are difficult to hear as it is without heavy modification ( dynamat, kick panels etc. ) So just finding a good 6x9 speaker should produce some descent bass and lots of sound.

Now if you're a bass junky. Forget all of that. Go order some subs off the internet. Retail subs are just the most horrid Sound Qaulity i've ever seen. I good subwoofer in my opinion is one with an RMS of a 1000watts and 1500 max watts at 4Ohms.

Then you need an Amp and Box. I would say the minimum you are going to spend on just the subwoofer stuff is going to be $400.

It's a real shame to settle with an "ok" system if you're a die hard music listener.

My cars sound system has evolved from 4 stock 4inch speakers on a 30Wattx4 Casette headunit.

Then a 180 x 4 head unit on 4 kenwood 6.5 inch 2 Way speakers.

(My car was broken into and my head unit was stolen, after that point my attitude changed alot, i wasn't going to hide in a corner and cry, i torn all my speakers out of my car and started from scratch again)

Now i'm up to 6 Loud Speakers running on a 710Watt RMS (thats about 89.7 x 4 @ 4 Ohm )Amp

Not only does it no longer distort but i can raise the volume to deafining levels about 100dB right now without any Subwoofer support.

It's taken 2 years and about $1000 in wasted Speakers, stolen equipment, labor fees and Wire and acessories but i;m finally happy where i'm at.

Ya good luck though [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

My car's got crappy speakers and a tape deck (which we installed later, it originally just had a radio). Sure I could pay money to put in all sorts of speakers and a CD player or something, but I don't see the point. I'm not in my car enough for it to matter, and as long as I can hear my music I'm happy. My money is better spent keeping gas in the tank, and replacing the bloody heater fan $70 my butt! I could just tape a series of Hair Driers to the Dashboard for cheaper than that.
