well, i'm going back home in June (the 23rd)
i'll be in Zimbabwe until July 23rd when i go back to London... i'm planning on meeting up with a friend while there and spending a day or two on either end of a jaunt (sp?) to Vicenza Italy to see my sister.

so, i need to know how cheaply i can eat in London and Italy! ;D
i've sort of been planning around £20 per day in london and €20 in italy... but i'm not so sure on the italy side of that.

also, what's a good, cheap airline to fly from London to Venice?
i've been looking at RyanAir which has flights for about £20-30 one way (add tax and it ends up being around 70quid) so that's around $120usd for round trip...
that's a good price but if someone knows a better way to go then let me know (=

thanks in advance for the info!

Not sure about our fine capital, £20 a day should be enough I think, but I'm a Northerner, so I don't visit London too often... As for Italy, from what I remember of Florence and Venice, it was cheap as chips to eat so 20 Euros should do you fine!

Anyone who knows better feel free to disagree - I've not been to Italy in a couple of years!

Have a good trip!

In London, I'd say between 20 and 30. In Italy, you can get by very cheaply, especially if you're addicted to gelato, you can make meals out of the stuff and keep your daily meal tab to under 10 Euros... and what are the keyboard commands for the pound and euro signs?

€ = Alt+0128
¥ = Alt+0165
you can do Start > Run > charmap to find them ALL [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

well, i'm glad to hear Italy will be cheap... that'll balance out nicely with slightly more expensive stuff in London.

I figure if I don't want to eat in a proper restaurant (or even McD's [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] I'll just pick up a pie and cool drink. that's enough of a meal (assuming the pie is good)

thanks guys!

I'm assuming some collect-the-tokens thing with The Sun or something! I went to Alton Towers for £1 on one of those.
I tend to spend about £5 a day on lunch in London, and if you're eating out in the evening, you're generally looking at about £15 for standard not-too-posh fare. One place I'd recommend (I never shut up about this place to my friends!) is La Porchetta, it's a pizzeria which is the most amazing value for money ever. You can get a margharita for £5.50 (was £4.50 when I used to go, but I guess that's inflation for you) and the pizzas are too big to fit on the plate, and easily the best I've ever had. (Though I've never been to Italy!) A litre of house wine is £8.50 I think and along with one pizza, that's always been enough to keep two people happy when I've gone there in the past. There are about 5 restaurants across London I think.
Other than that, standard chip shops (if you're looking for pie) will feed you for £5 easily.

i'm not going to be drinking, i don't do that ;P
and i'll probably eat cheap junk most of the time or just grab a bag of fruit or something (and pie! i love pie... pies back home are so great)

Try to find a Nando's Chicken ( http://www.nandos.co.uk ) restaurant: great value for money and good food.

Plus a good old curry can't be beaten, try any curry house or if you have a strong stomach try the Lahore in Commercial Road, East London.
