My way:

How 'bout you? (I know my ways werid, but I'm lazy to edit the .mp3 becasue noone has any idea who are featured in the songs so I just use the filename [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]).

Via Winamp 5. Sometimes via 'Open File...', sometimes via playlist. And sometimes I just put a CD in. Yeh.

I have a folder with some playlists, that you can see there. But I usually have all my mp3s loaded and than I click on that "j" that opens Winamp and its "jump to file"-window where I enter what I want to song. Almost all my songs have correct id3-tags so it works fine [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] This icons to controll winamp are rather cool since I don't have them on my keyboard and so I can remove winamp from the taskbar and the tray. When I press ALT-TAB there is one programm less [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

And I have "next song" bound to CTRL-SHIFT-S what is realy cool when I listen to music with shuffle.

Clicky. Check out (1) and (3) - (1) is set up to scrool my mp3 folder and looks a bit like Sol's setup. Turning the wheel pops up a scroll list, and pushing on it selects a song.

Those people who have 1 big folder, how would you add one album to your playlist?

Easy. I don't download full albums, I buy them.
2004-03-01, 10:27 AM #15
Erm.. I buy music and rip it to my hard drive. Saves a lot of cd swaping.

I organizy my music like this:

Music\Band\Album\Band - Album - TrackNo - Title.mp3

I can easily add specific albums or tracks.

Generally though, I just add the entire music folder and stick winamp on shuffle, unless i'm looking for something specific then I will browse through the folder with explorer.

That doesn't really answer the question, but hey, I guess you wanted to take a stab at downloaders and hastily assumed I got my music that way.

There are reasons why I keep all my music on my pc: usability, I don't want to buy a stereo

So you have one gigantic playlist with several thousand entries?

Who said you needed a stereo? Put the CD in your CD-ROM drive, and guess what, it actually plays! What wonderful technology... not like it's any harder to put a CD in the computer than it is to go searching around your MP3s for the song you want to listen to.

I don't use playlists, I control-click a whole bunch of songs that I feel like listening to and enqueue them in Winamp.

Okay WTF?
Why do you ASSUME my stuff is downloaded?

It is ****ing bought, moron

I keep it on my PC because it makes it easier to listen to what I want and when I want, no need to put in a CD when I am actually playing a game which needs its own CD etc

(and another thing, I think you don't know how to read, my music is organized, I wasn't asking how others do it because I need tips for myself)

I say "computer, play music by <artist>". Seriously.
2004-03-01, 12:14 PM #23
when i rip it goes c:\My Music\artist\album\track# - songname.extension

downloaded stuff (legally... mp3.com (before they died), a band's website, sites like soundclick and all that, stuff i own on cassette and vinyl... so don't go screaming pirate or i'll stab you in the eye) just end up in c:\my music

stuff i record ends up in 2 places
wavs end up in C:\audio\wav\various folders
compressed files end up in c:\my music\jim7\various folders

Look at my setup and stfu. It takes 2 seconds. Unlike getting a CD, putting it in the drive, letting it spin up, then waiting for a program to open it, then selecting a song... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] Not to mention not worrying about wanting to listen to one song on a CD, then having to switch it just to listen to another.

I have a 1800 track playlist for random / background listening. If I want to listen to a specific song, Winamp has an enqueue function, so all I gotta do is open up the playlist, find the song alphabetically by artist and song title (I keep all my ID3 tags in order), and then enqueue it.

If I want to listen to a whole album, I put the CD in my stereo.

My music is stored in one folder called MUSIC within there it is seperated by folders for each artist, within each artist each album and then tracks are all named "number-artist-track.mp3".

I've got some 6000 mp3s. If they were all in 1 folder with no order there would be death.

I really have no organization on my hard drive, but I have it all in the winamp media library, and I try to keep my tags all good.. so I can just right click and enqueue by album, artist, or jsut use the search.

Why don't you stfu? Not everyone listens to only one song on a CD. Damn, I wouldn't even buy it if there was only one song worth listening.

Yeah, so what, it is still faster to load the album of mp3s|oggs|aacs in your player than to put in the CD.

And please answer why you assume people who have their music on the PC downloaded it and cannot possibly have bought it

I never assumed that you download full albums. You asked:

I simply answered that I don't have any full album's in MP3 form, I keep them on CD. No use on filling up my small 40gb hard drive with MP3's of the tons of CD's I own. It's already full of games and music-production related stuff so...

Good enough explanation for you? Now leave me the hell alone.

What a bull**** explanation, your implication was very clear and now you pull the pouting card?

Excuse me while I listen to a CD... the thread is called "How do you get at your MUSIC"... I think CD's still qualify.

The implication here is that everyone who has his music on his PC in (one big) folder has illegally downloaded it

Yes. When I add music to my playlist, I use the 'Add Folder' option and it adds every mp3 in my 'My Music' (subdirectories and main directory) folder to my playlist. I can then access every mp3 that I have with the click of one button and a little scrolling to find the specific track.
