here's some unmastered versions of 2 of the songs we recorded this past weekend at the studio. we're finishing the mixing/mastering this weekend and there's one more song that's going to be on our final demo.

mullorahm 2 is faster and upbeat/weird while my grey company is a piano ballad that gets awesome in the chorus/outro.

you guys are the first people outside my band and close friends that have heard this so tell me honestly what you think.

and right now the band's name is Schming but since we're starting to get serious about it we're looking to change it. suggestions? think coldplay, radiohead, travis. something simple but cool.

The first one sounds a lot like something off Pablo Honey. It's good, I like the overall sound, but I think the drummer needs to tone it back a little. He goes a little crazy near the end of the song.

The second song sounds like it will be really good when you guys remaster it when you make it big a few years down the track [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]
Again, I really like the overall sound of the song, it just sounds a little rough around the edges. Oh, and the guitar solo could be beefed up a little.

Muchos potential [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I really enjoyed the first song, your drummer is pretty cool, the intro reminds me of The Mars Volta somewhat. It doesn't have any slow moments, and it stays interesting.

I do agree Spork that it sounds a bit like something from Pablo Honey, but some of the more unrestrained bursts in the song, especially the intro and outro, were brilliant.

Downloading the second now, i'll give you my opinion in a while.

I havent really listened to Pablo Honey that much. I own it, but I always turn it off after How Do You because it's my favorite.

Ok yeah that's a great song, and you're not missing out on Creep, but Anyone can Play Guitar, Stop Whispering, Ripcord, all awesome songs.

And hey sounding like Pablo Honey is a good thing; your next album will absolutely rock, and then begins the decent into new and weird kinds of music accompanied by musical acceptence at the elitist level [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I like your singing. Suggestions:

  • Take the echo thing off of your voice on Grey Company.
  • Your drummer slows down whenever he fills in the Mullorahm verse.

I kind of dug them both, though. Except for that metre change thing in Mullorahm.

mullorahm 2:
I really like this song. Excellent vocals, and your drummer is good at filling in the gaps between guitar riffs.

Thanks. Ya... the reverb on the vocals on My Grey Company is excessive, but that's mostly because it's a rough mix and not a final version. Like I said, that's not even the vocal track we're using, I go in and out of tune so much with the rough mix vocals it's not funny.

You guys sound pretty great, but are severely lacking in originality. Not that it's a bad thing though, not everyone tries to be original. And just because something isn't original doesn't mean it's not good. So don't take it the wrong way!!! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] You have a pretty good voice.
2004-03-05, 6:23 PM #18
So... you mean the songs arent original or the overall style of the band isnt original?

Because if you mean the songs arent original... ya... they are.

If you mean the overall style of the band isnt original, it's what I like to play. The music I write just has to mean something to me. I dont care if it's a similar style to what you've heard 800x I like it and as long as other people like it enough for me to make a living off it I'm happier.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to it though, it really does mean a lot!

I've still got one song I havent been able to get a recording of back from the studio, but we should be going in there tomorrow to finalize the mixes on these 2 songs as well as this last one...

Really got into the second one. Lyrics were great, piano was spot on, and I just over all liked it. I second getting rid of the echo thing though.

The first one I could only really get into on the acoustic version. With the studio version, it was like the vocals were totally overpowered by the rest of the music. (probably just that mix though)

I really do like it overall though. As the others have said, you guys have great potential.

Well, they ARE 2 different songs (mullorahm and mullorahm 2), so maybe you liked the first song better... But ya, like I've said, not a finalized mix on mullorahm 2 or my grey company.

What do you think about the name angelEyes?

Think Clint Eastwood, not actual angel eyes... although it's sort of ambiguous.

Muahaha.

Gave me some hilariously cheesy band names, like:
Jousters
The Runes
Groove Garden
Girl Next Door
Ink Pink
The Tailors
The Bandages
Trojan (everyone would be reminded of the condom - so you'd be promoting safe sex [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif])

This also makes names (much better ones).
I particular liked the band names "Butt Zebra," "Final Force of the Rubber Rabit," and "Rose of the Titanic Sphincter." (The last one made me cringe.)

Ok, we just finished mixing all 3 of the songs and my friend is mastering them either today or tomorrow to be picked up on Saturday.

We're going to keep the name schming until we get rid of any merchandise and then either vote on a new name, angelEyes being a toprunner, or keep schming.

Anyways, if any of you want a CD, I'm getting them professionally pressed, let me know and I'll mail you one, I'll pay for it all and everything as long as it's under $10 S&H cause I have no idea how much it is to ship one CD (in a cardboard sleeve not a jewel case) internationally.

I'll buy one. You'll have to accept my wacko Canadian money, though.

Personally, I think angelEyes is not so great. At least go with Angel Eyes and don't do the goofy fusion of two words thing. Also, there was some Jennifer Lopez movie with that name...I don't know if you'd take that as a good or bad point.

Alright fine! We're stickin with the name schming just to appease you! and because I realized that I really do like the name, just every so often I absolutely hate it, but then I realize that it's a unique name, once you hear it you dont forget it, and I've already invested too much money into it and people know us by it... bleh.

Oh, ya, check out my website and tell me what sucks about it because I've been trying to make it better... I just dont have an eye for web design...

LAIR OF SCHMING!
