For some reason, music videos have a huge effect on me. It could be the crappiest song in the world, but if it has a good video, I'll like it.

I don't really pick it. I listen to music that does "it" for me; "it" is the feeling that this music is all I need in the world.

I used to go check out songs when people suggested them, and I rarely tried new music.. and then I started watching Much Music and saw some videos and then I got into more punk-esque stuff like blink182 and three days grace.

Listen to new tunes at my friends house, see new bands on TV.... or listen to the hundreds of bands who do not exist anymore... most of them better than the new stuff coming out.

Mostly from friends saying that "Oh, if you like this you might like this." Then I dont listen to them until about 3 months later when I by chance happen upon the artist and end up liking them. Or I'll go to shows and the opener or something will be really awesome and I just have to become a fan.

I usually listen to songs on the radio or CD (there are a ton of CDs among the 38 people who live in my house) and if I like what I hear, I get the CD.

Lots of times i just hear music that makes my ears jump, but its usally at some obscure time so I CAN NEVER FIGUER OUT WHAT THE HELL THE SONG NAME IS AND GO CRAZY FOR MONTHS ASKING MY FRIENDS IF THEY HAVE HEARD THE SONG BY SINGING IT TO THEM WITH MY NAILS-ON-A-CHALKBOARD VOICE!!

I have had some bad past experiances.

I dunno, I was thinking about this for a while, and I finally figured it out: passion, man.

If someone feels strongly about what they are singing, and it is obvious it is not one of those "I'll pretend to care so I can rake in cash" people, I usually love it.

I agree with the passion thing. You have to have passion for me to like it. However - passionate songs which have fairly ordinary music (as opposed to vocals) take a while for me to notice them. I find that more exciting actual music - ie. guitarring, drumming, other than vocals - draws me into it quicker.

I don't like their system, it's a little...off. For example, they have Korn, Tool, and Rammstein all listed as similar artists, and while I'm a big fan of all three bands, they're not really all that similar.

I usually listen to the songs, and I get a good grasp on if the music rubs me the right way or not.

I got a lot of new music from www.mp3.com. Most of bands nobody has ever heard of, but are extremely awesome. But now... it's dead.
