Who would like to work as a music critic?

I wouldn't

but quite some people here seem to know what they talk about when they declare which music sucks and which doesn't

I'd rather be a movie critic, or video game magazine reviewer. Music critic would probably be third, though. No wait, fourth, after sports journalist.

Actually I'd say most people have no idea what they're talking about and tend to be overly prejudiced regarding music.

Is there even such a thing as a music critic? Becuase, frankly, I don't see how it could be done.

Every critic would be automatically biased, even if only a little, towards certain types of music. Add that to the fact that anything they say is a very large opinion, and it's almost pointless to bother.

The same could be said of a movie critic, right?

Movies are much less abstract than music. In movies you can judge how convincing the actors were, how fitting the soundtrack is to the atmosphere, how convincing the special effects were... Personal opinions regarding movies tend to be more about the genre and the story. In other words; generally everyone agrees on what's crappy special effects and what's good special effects, or yet, what's good acting and what's bad acting.

Exactly. I was going to point that out in my previous post, but was pressed for time.

There could be a critic for each specific type of music, a music critivs for Jazz, Rap, Rock, ect ect.

Of course there are so many sub catagories in each of those genres.

I wouldn't want to be a critic of anything, especially music or movies.

Cuz then I wouldn't recognize good stuff when I heard/saw it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

That's why people go with the critics they like.
My current favorite music critic, www.pitchforkmedia.com doesn't even pretend to be objective.
