Let them listen to Apocalyptica - Hall of the Mountain King. If they still don't like it, may they burn in hell.

My housemates listen to dance and poprock.

Nuff said.

I haven't heard of them, but looking them up they appear to be heavy metal, so I probably wouldn't like them if I heard them.

If by "Heavy Metal" you mean "people playing violins" then I suppose you're right...

What exactly about heavy metal is it that you don't like? The singing? The intruments? The lyrics? The "song progression" (favoured chords, keys etc)?

Your roommates suck.

I like Apocalyptica a bit. Very much, actually.

Yeah.

So these "headphones" will make his roomies suddenly enjoy Apoc as I do?

No, but, amazingly, it helps people get along. My roommate can't stand half the stuff on my playlist, and I can't stand half of his stuff, so we don headphones.

Haven't heard Apocalyptica and Auf Der Maur. Sorry.
I'm not like a "shut that dang music off already!!!" kinda person; I just let people listen to their music, and I would expect them to let me do the same. It ticks me off when other people tell me to turn off my music because they don't like it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/mad.gif]. It's so intolerant and annoying.

Hmmm, you really shouldn't be so annoyed just because they don't like your music. You know, people who don't listen to the music you like doesn't mean there's something wrong with them, it simply means its not their style and their tastes. It's fun to spread around great bands that you like, but if they don't like it, you shouldn't freak out about it.

I've listened to Apocalyptica, and I can say I don't really like them. What are you going to do about it? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

You seem to be assuming that he's unable to listen to these bands because his flatmates might tell him to turn it off. All I got out of his post is they simply don't like the music, and he wants to see who does. I must have missed the part where he's been annoying the people he lives with.

Good question. I know that not all heavy metal is bad, I just happen to not like most of the bands in that genre. A lot of them are full of themselves. Then there's the cheesy "it's cool to be evil" thing. The way certain bands like to name themselves after medieval (I know I spelt that wrong) torture/exectution devices gets old also.
I guess I'm also not a fan of the instrumentation. I'm not a fan of the "heavy" sound like I used to be.

I guess I'm not 100% anti heavy metal though, sometimes it can be exciting. I like the music in Full Throttle, and as I've mentioned, I like the only Iron Maiden song I've heard (depite them being named after a medieval execution device). I don't like their "death" image either that's on some of the album covers. I like the fact that they seem to embrace camp in the song Number of the Beast though.
I hate the music in the Cowboy Bebop episode "Heavy Metal Queen" because it gives me a headache, and I dislike the theme song for Trigun just because it sounds like some guitars randomly playing fast.

"Number of the Beast" isn't camp, it's about a dream that Steve Harris had (which many of their songs are)...

And I think Iron Maiden is the only band named after a torture device.

If you want a band that isn't about "being evil" then listen to newer Savatage (as in, since about '91...) They write about actual events, people and politics, instead of dragons, hell and "the power of metal" (Manowar, I'm glaring in your direction). Much of their newer work is heavily influenced by musicals, so it's not just loud guitars.

I'd recommend "Alone You Breathe" (about one of the band members who died in a car crash with a drunk driver) and "Not What You See" (about two people in Sarajevo on opposite sides of a conflict).

Personally, I think it's pretty boring. *shrug* I used to dig it, so I've been there - I know what it's like. You get tired of stuff, you move on.

But that's just my opinion. If you like metal, then enjoy...

You can't tell me Number of the Beast isn't at least a little camp. Not even in the way he sings?
And I guess Tracer also made a good point. Like him, I find it boring.

Yeah, but I only let it bother me when it's metal. That's how hypocrisy works. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
Honestly, I'm positive that there are many metal bands that aren't full of themselves. The whole epic thing in metal just isn't something that appeals to me, and I'm not a fan of metal-style guitar playing.

I'm very tolerant when it comes to music, but I really hate the beatles. Force me to listen to an entire beatles album and I swear you'll have turned me into an unstable dangerous violent maniac who could rip the skin off your face any second. If you really hate a song, then it's just annoying noise to you. Take a noise you really really hate and imagine having to hear it fairly loud for an extended period of time while you're trying to relax. Just do your friends a favor and put some headphones on I say.

Tolerance is also about respecting the fact that others may not like what you like.

Huh, I wouldn't have guessed right away. He should sing in an overemphasized cockney accent like David Bowie, that would be cool.
I'm afraid I don't like the song as much anymore. It's no longer fun. I guess I'll have to stick with The Darkness and Electric Six for fun metal. Maybe I should check out Spinal Tap also.

I love Apocalyptica, I heard em some time ago when they were playin Metallica, tough than I didn't get to know their name yet. Than I saw em on TV - and next day I hate the "Inquisition Symphony" - i love that song (from both bands)

But what the hell is "Auf der Mauer"? I live in Germany but I never heard of em. They are German, aren't they?

And yeah, sometimes Metal gets boring, but there are so many different styles of metal [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] And if I can't listen to guitars anymore I listen to some Raeggae or (german) Rap [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] Or Apocalyptica [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
