Post a band (the more popular, the better), then post a band that is similar (the better the band, the better). We'll be able to find out great, new bands that sound like the ones we already like.

For all of you Coldplay/Radiohead fans (read: all of Massassi), I highly suggest listening to And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead. One of my favorites, and while it sounds like Coldplay, IMO it's much better. You can download Relative Ways here from Epitonic (it's legal).

Oooh, I've been listening to And You Will Know Us By the Trail of the Dead a bit lately. They are groovy.

I can't currently think of much to add, except that Big Star was a big influence on a lot of bands and were awesome.

Oh, I forgot!
The Stone Roses. Another band that's similar to the ones you mentioned, Whelly.
From what I hear, their first album is their best one. That's the one I have, and it's awesome.

Most definately NOT all of Massassi. I, for one, can't stand Coldplay. At all. I've tried many a time to listen to them, and I just can't make it through any of the songs I've heard.

Also Muse and Doves [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Fans of U2-style anthems, Zeppelin / AC-DC guitar riffs, and Thom Yorke (Radiohead, yet slightly less weird) style crooning, should definitely check out Australian band Powderfinger. These Days, My Happiness, Sunsets, and Love Your Way are just a few good songs from their 2 most recent albums.

That does sound interesting, sir Spork.

Trail of the Dead sounds more punky to me than the bands you guys are listing.
Their album Source Tags and Codes got an impressive 10.0 review from pitchfork.

For all of you Evanscence lovers, I got the perfect band for you. If you like the instrumental aspects of the band, but dislike the metal aspects, be sure to give Elliot a listen. They sound beautiful, and have various instruments to back them up.

Elliott are one of the best bands of our time, but frankly I'm appalled that you compared them to Evanesence.

For all of you Dave Matthew Band fans, give a listen to Four Squares. So much better sounding, but it reminds of them for some reason...

He compared the instrumental aspects, not the entire band. The way I read it, he's saying that Evanesence's instrumentals and Elliott's instrumentals are similar.

If you're into Dave Matthews/John Mayer/That other guy who's usually in here:
Glen Phillips

I'm not a fan of Dave Matthews/John Mayer/Other guy, but I know there's a lot of overlap. Glen Phillips is awesome. If anyone's interested, I can link to some free legal downloads.
