Anyone hear them? I used to listen to them when I was 9 (friend's sister owned and played constantly their CDs), and just recently stumbled upon them again.

All I can say is wow. Their calm attitude is awesome, and makes me just feel so relaxed. Great stuff.

Opinions? Suggestions for similar bands?

While not a fan of their music, I do think their newest single is pretty cool. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Their new album is great. Float On and World at Large are both addicting songs.

From what I've heard of them (several of my friends are big fans) I cant stand them. Their style is so laid back that I cant tell if they just suck at playing their instruments and make do with what they can play or if they're just too thrown off by the horrendously offpitch and awfully toned vocals. It's like a fusion of 80s Breakfast Club, emo, and british prog like Mogwai. I like 80s and British prog but the emo needs to die quickly.

On the flipside, a band that is kind of in the same vein but I love is Bright Eyes.

I love it all, even the hint of emo. Normally I'm as anti-emo as you get, but I love their laid back style, so it kind of covers the fact that they are in fact emo. To each his own I suppose [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Modest Mouse isn't emo! It's indie rock, baby! Well... they're not very independent now, are they? But it's got that indie rock sound to them.

I never said they were emo. I said they were a fusion of sounds and emo being one of them.

.....how about everyone shut up about what kind of rock a group does and just enjoy it regardless? Does the type of rock really matter?

One of my friends put them on the stereo at a party I went to. I liked them at the time, but I was a bit tipsy, so I probably would've liked anything else too.

...What? Who said we were arguing? I was just joking around. I like Modest Mouse, but they aren't amazing.

Isaac Brock expresses some good points about music. When a radio DJ asked him to describe Modest Mouse's genre/type of music, he simply cut the guy off saying no, and it's for us to make up our own damn minds. People might call it an indie-rock; when it's simply music. You can listen to the radio interview right here http://www.91x.com/timages/page/media/modest_mouse.mp3 .

I love Modest Mouse. Their old stuff from the album "The Lonesome Crowded West" is amazing. I recommend this album to those who like their new stuff.

With their new album "Good News For People Who Love Bad News", the song "Float On" is uplifting, and "World At Large" lyrically is amazing. I'd say it's the best album of 2004.

They've been an underground band for years, and now they're beginning to get some spotlight. They are true artists who just go with the flow, and don't really care about the fame and glory.

Yes. Like I said, I remember listening to them years upon years ago.

I was speaking generally. I've seen arguement after arguement here about what genre a band is.
