Read this, then let me know.

After reading that, I think I'd do better without it.

Genesis 22:2-5 - And God said unto Abraham "You must kill your son, Isaac." And Abraham said "What? I can't hear you! You'll have to speak into the microphone." And God said "Check, check, check, check. Jerry, can you pull the high end out. I'm getting some hiss up here."

...I'd like to see some of the actual contracts that HUGE groups have. I think it'd be interesting to see the actual terms.

Now I'm scared about label shopping...

hah. So? It's all stuff I already knew, still not scared of searching for a deal. I mean, If I can pay my bills just fine and still gig all over the world because of a contract, even if they make money off my music, I still get to tour, and that's the best part.

I'd prefer to be able to tour than to make money.

Getting less than 10% of the profits that you make isn't fair no matter how you look at it.

I know.
I still don't like the idea of people taking 90+% of the money I would earn.
However, I can't say I dislike the idea of touring for free and not having to pay bills. Plus sponsors give you free gear (or beer, whatever).
Or at least I would assume so.

I also wonder if Christian labels do the same, since that's what I'd be most likely to do. I know there's a few (like Vinyard) that try to make money around every freakin' corner. I want to smack them.

*cough* most artists make their money off touring. So as long as you dont suck live you should be able to do fine with pushing 200,000 cd's. That's the part the article failed to mention. Sounds like the guy is just pissed because he forgot the whole touring aspect that goes along with a music career.

yea, the writer seems awfully biased and most of his facts are true but do not always happen that way.

I heard most cash comes from Merch sales.

Unless you become an independent band of course, the wise people who don't deal with a record companies crap.

Most artists don't know how to go through all the distrubution and production stuff (or don't initially have the money to do it... or don't want to do it.)

Though it would be useful to know...

Pfft, don't be dissing on VMG. (You are talking about VMG, right?) (and, btw, you spelled Vineyard wrong)

Vinyard and Vineyard are two different labels, I'm assuming. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] I've seen both spellings. My church's lyric liscence has "vinyard" on some stuff and "vineyard" on others.

Either way, I never said I didn't like their music.
