Violin synthesizer?

Is there some program or something I can download to create a realistic violin sound? I have a song that was supposed to have a violin solo, and I just can't quite play it. So I'll have to cheat, if possible.

Genesis 22:2-5 - And God said unto Abraham "You must kill your son, Isaac." And Abraham said "What? I can't hear you! You'll have to speak into the microphone." And God said "Check, check, check, check. Jerry, can you pull the high end out. I'm getting some hiss up here."

Well that's a pretty vague question. There's alot of different kinds of violins that can make alot of different kinds of sounds. If you're going for long stretched notes, you'll probably manage to get away with a synth, but otherwise, you might need a real violin.

Check that site out.. or consider "purchasing" Edirol's Orchestral VSTi, or perhaps even some old analog synth and spend time tweaking the sounds until you get a proper violin sound. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Sample it. The only way to get real-sounding violins is to cut out a sample of one, chop it up in whatever wave editing program you use so that you can loop it, and then just play it. You'll want a note from several different octaves, though, because pitching a note too high or low will make it sound funny. I'll upload a couple of my own string samples here in a minute

It turns out that I don't have any string samples that I can give out. But it's not that difficult to cut up your own, just post if you have any questions about getting them to loop smoothly

I actually tried a violin sample in fruityloops that I pulled from a song. A pitch change of only a couple of notes was noticeable (at least to me).

*Lots* of synthetic violin and strings sounds out there are horrible compared to the real thing.

I *do* have a real violin. I just suck horribly at it. Unfretted stringed instruments do not like me. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Well, your best bet then is to record youself playing a C at a couple different octaves. If you send the clips to me, I can make em loop for you and send em back.

Hmm...
I'm going out to my church to do some drum recording. Maybe I'll throw in some much-needed violin practice while I'm there. If I still suck, I'll have to fake something.

I wonder if it would help if I had a shoulder rest for the violin. It's kinda hard to keep it steady.

I used to play violin, a shoulder rest makes a huge differece, but i started cello instead.. no shoulder pains there [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] Of course i quit cello for more guitar practice.. >.>
