John Mayer???

Could someone please tell me why he's so popular? I mean, he is a decent musician, but he's certainly not an awesome musician. And yet, I'm hearing about him constantly. For example the other night he was on some show doing a concert, and at one point, he starts into this guitar solo... It was something incredibly simple (ie, I could have done it, and I'm primarily a drummer and just play guitar on the side), and yet, the crowd went *nuts* screaming and stuff... The worst part was the whole time he was soloing, he had this weird look on his face... It annoyed me...

Anyway...

He is inoffensive, mildly good looking, and has a good manager who knows how to market his music.

Hmm, well I'm inoffensive and [very] good looking...

(note to self: find a good manager)

I saw him live, and he played a long distortioned electric solo which I TOTALLY did not expect. It was also incredible awesome, reminiscent of Stevie Ray. Everything else was meh.
