Symphony X

Hrm, I don't beleive anyone's posted about them, and it's impossible that no one around here knows them. If you forget dream theater, Symphony X's easily the band with the best song structure ever. also, blazing guitar work with a heavy classical influence, in other words, completely awesome. They're the kind of band that make overly technical guitar playing sound -good- and not just "needlyneddlyneedly I can shred needlyneddly" like so many immature metal bands thay play fast without melody. If people are interested I'll post a link to a song.

Never heard of them. What genre do they generally fall into? That could be a major reason why for me.

That would exactly explain why I've never heard of them. I'm not really into metal at all.

Seb, you're my type of man..=) Err...that sounded kind of gay actually...

Yeah, Symphony X is like the definition of "Bad *** ". Michael Romeo is probably one of the best, if not the best, guitar players out there.

I saw them live last year at ProgPower IV. Their encore was "The Odyssey". First time they ever played it live. If you don't know the Odyssey, it's this 24 minute epic that follows the whole journey of Odysseus.

Was absolutely incredible, sounded just like the album - yet heavier and better.

You almost have to see Romeo live though to realize how amazing he is. He really proved it to me when he did "Inferno (Unleash the Fire)" live. He just shreds all over the neck, is the only guitar player in the band, and the thing sounded incredible.

Point of post: Awesome band. Killer live band.

I've always considered Dream Theater and Symphony X to be on opposite sides of the spectrum, myself; Dream Theater seems to be more jazz based, whereas Symphony X is more classically influenced...

Either way, they're both great. I think "The Odyssey" is a fantastic song.

well, Micheal romeo happens to be a complete -god- at legato playing and tapping.

Symphony X is pretty damned cool. Russel Allen has good vocals, and I really needn't touch upon how awesome a player Michael Romeo is. I think his solos of sweep, tap, scalar run can get a bit repetitive, but he has a lot of very good moments.
