I like Leftover Crack.

I'm not huge on bands like reel big fish and less than jake or whatever with lots of upbeat tooty trumpets.

Operation ivy are good too.

PLEASE tell me you've also heard of Choking Victim! It's almost the same band. Or at least it had Stza, which makes it almost the same band.

But yes, Leftover Crack, Choking Victim, and Operation Ivy are really the only good ska that ever will be, in my book.

I was going to go see Reel Big Fish, Catch 22, RX Bandits, Lucky Boys Confusion, and Big D And The Kids Table on Monday. I was ready to buy tickets, but none of my friends could go. I'm really disappointed... tell me how it goes Warlord. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

MadQuack, have you heard Against All Authority? It's not really ska, but it's anarcho-punk with a little bit of trumpets... very good.

Too. Many. Genres.

Punk, Emo, Ska, Nu Metal, I can't keep track of it all! I only have two genres. 1) Good (what I like), and 2) Bad (what I don't like)

I think I've heard some Ska songs I've liked.

I am gonna end up going to see Reel Big Fish, Rx Bandits, Catch 22, and Lucky Boy's Confusion for three shows in a row at the end of July. My friends and I are gonna go to the two shows that they are all doing in WI and then heading to Chicago for the big show that is happening there too. I can't wait, but my wallet already hurts at the thought of it.

If you like ska, you should check out Rustic Overtones. While not exactly ska, it has ska influences. Unfortunately, they're not together anymore. In their place stand a few other bands that the members formed when Rustic broke up. Just do a search for Rustic Overtones or talk to me if you ever see me online. If you like Rustic, check out the Paranoid Social Club and Rocktopus, the two main bands that formed after the break-up.

I can't wait. In 2 months Streetlight's hitting GA, and I think they're on tour with Big D still. Hopefully they'll also perform some Bandits stuff. I might even be able to get backstage passes. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Streetlight Manifesto is some good stuff. My friend and I are gonna go see them sometime this summer (I forgot the date and the location) and we're both excited. He plays the saxophone, so he's even more excited about seeing the sax player(s).

Me hugs the ska.

Love RBF - saw them and Goldfinger in February just gone. Best gig. Ever.

Just awoke after the concert! I must say it was incredible.
I missed Big D and the Kids Table, but I got there just as Lucky Boys Confusion were starting.
Lucky Boys were awesome, I really enjoyed them.
Then came RX Bandits, who were insane. I loved them, they had an awesome stage presence.
Catch 22 played next, but they didnt have as much energy. They were good, but they were just kind of boring.
Reel Big Fish were good too. they had good energy, and were alot of fun. They even covered a Duran Duran song.

Just bought the Streetlight Manifesto CD, and I've been listening to it nonstop. Definitely one of the best ska CDs I've listened to. Who else has it?

pardon my ignorance, but isn't Ska the one that's like Punk with trumpets?

I made a thread, that turned into the debate, so I made a second thread, that turned into a debate, then I made a third thread, that caught on fire, burned down, got flamed, crapped on, bashed, then turned into a debate...but the fourth one, the fourth one stayed on topic!
Think while it's still legal.

A brisk form of Jamaican-born rock derived from reggae and rock energy. It was popularized in the early 1980s by British “black-and-white” multiracial bands that formed a lighter faction of the punk movement.

SAJN - yeah, that's the one you're thinking of, but it doesn't necessarily have to have brass. But most of the stuff I listen to does - upbeat and bouncy = goodness. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Came into this thread a little late...

I've been in 2 different ska bands, I've always loved ska. Yes, I'm going to the RBF/RX Bandits/Catch22 show, and yes, I own and love streetlight manifesto. Any other questions?

Well, now that this thread has been brought back to life... There seems to be a lot of people heading to the Rx Bandits/RBF/Catch 22 show this summer, but is there anyone heading to the St. Louis show on the 27th of August? I can't get any of my "friends" to go with me...
