Anyone else notice the fact that theres about half a dozen artists of any note around at the moment who are actually making new music instead of just recycling the same songs by different bands over and over?

Music is so dull nowadays, "genre" simply means "loads of bands who sound exactly the same"... its quite annoying as a musician that you get this kinda stuff... personally, i'd rather be creative and make something new and interesting instead of tired and repetitive styles done thousands of times before by other artists.

Bah, just something that annoys me about music.

I listen alot to local bands, sure you have to see them live.. and if they actually have any CDs to buy they're all **** quality. But atleast it's a bit of a break. Also I do try to find more variating music around on the net.. There are some good bands if you look hard enough... Then I check through the CDs at stores that are really cheap, since usually the creative bands don't sell very well.. so their music is cheap. Yeah, bands like Jet just remind me of songs I've already heard. (Well, especially Jet...)

Gimme a week and I'll put some tracks up. You'll probably find them dull and boring but I enjoyed making them.

Just a heads up, there is a real Hammond with a Leslie on one of the tracks. It IS perfect.

With billions of songs in existence, it gets a little hard to be genuinely creative. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Lyrics have similarity within almost any style of music. Country, for example, is almost always about trucks, chicks, and/or beer.

depends on where you are and the band...

if you live in some small in the middle of nowhere town where the nearest studio is really far away then yeah

if you live in a larger town where there are a few studios nearby and most of them are there for the local bands so their rates for studio time are not too high (which generally means their equipment isn't going to be the best in the world but still good enough to make a proper recording)

I agree with above. With so many bands, and so many different styles of music now, it's actually very hard to be strikingly 'original'.

Even if you find this new sound, you can always hear influences or other bands that sound like it.

I agree. If the band really wanted to they could find ways of getting good recording for relatively cheap. Even if they had to buy what they needed themselves it shouldnt have to be more than $1000. You can get the software for *cough* relatively cheap if you wanted. Mixer and mics are about the only things left.

Machinae Supremacy... that is a band with quite a unique sound: they use a SID-station and they sound like metal mixed with old video game music.
