My Band's first demo!
2004-09-02, 11:15 AM #1
My band's been working like crazy lately. We got a name, finally! (We are now The Catalyst)

We have our first demo up. Its a song called Mercury.

It's under Albums/EPs. Check it out. I'd love some constructive criticism.

It reminds me of the early Beatles.

Reminds me of the Clash. It's better than mine band's first demo. I told you most of the stuff I would type in this space already.

My Constructive Crit.

It sounds like your mouth is right ontop of the mic. bad. The vocals also need much work. It's more unrhythmic talking and yelling then singing...if you can understand that. :/ Sorry I suck at explaining myself.

Think while it's still legal.

A lot of singers sing up on the mic. I do. BUT when you start yelling or get really loud (not yelling but loud..... understand?) it's generally best to back off the mic about 4-5 inches. Not only does this save the sound guy and his equipment (if you're playing at a place with a really awesome sound system) but it also let's you hunch your body up all weird and make it look like you're getting into the music more. Also avoids distortion on cheaper microphones.

Shure SM58, one of the best $100 you'll ever spend.

The song called "You" is really really good, except the vocals. You have some pretty cool sounding bass parts on the other songs too.

The band plays together well, but the vocals are really terrible. Uh, sorry. The singer is way out of tune most of the time. No offense. The instrumental part of the band sounds good enough to play in front of other people, but you should get a new singer, or tell your vocalist to take lessons or something. And your lead guitarist really needs to learn a trick besides the minor pentatonic scale.

Other than that, seems like a fairly solid rock band.

Is this a bit of fun or really serious? (as in, your new job :p)

I wanted to start a band as some fun, and will I hope in a few years, but I dont know if it'll be completely serious.

Mercury - The vocals are, sorry to say, a bit on the poor side, and the lyrics dont really achieve anything special. The background guitar etc.. though is actually quite good.
