Any recommendations? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Kill Bill's soundtrack has a lot of variety, excellent background music.

If you like powerful classical music, cant really go past Lord of the Rings.

Spork, that is precisely what I am looking for -- powerful classical music similar to the 2 I have right now.

I probobly should get LotR for starters... but there are 3 CDs! Should I get all 3? Or just one?

RotK is the best of the three IMO.

But if you want music that is just like Gladiator, go for Pirates of the Caribbean, it has the most powerful music I've ever listened to in my entire life.

People claim that PotC ripped off Gladiator, but that isn't the case...AT ALL. Anyone that says PotC is ripping off Gladiator is an ignorant moron that should do his research before he speaks. /end mini rant.

Also when I say Pirates of the Caribbean is powerful...I mean it's POWERFUL!!!

Thanks for the tip. I do remember PotC having some compelling music, but I never thought about it.

My favourite LotR soundtrack is The Two Towers, but Return of the King is very good too. And hey you might as well get Fellowship to complete the set...

Definitly Lord of the Rings. All three of them are excellent, although I preferred The Two Towers and Return of The King. Check out the theme from Requiem for a Dream, though I'm not sure that alone warrants a purchase of the soundtrack.

Soundtracks I must get soon:

A Beautiful Mind
Lord of the Rings (all three)
Pirates of the Carribean
Gladiator
Passion of the Christ

Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack is very good, but it's also very similar to Gladiator and The Rock, it's practically a hybrid of the two. Just because the composer works for Hans Zimmer's company doesn't mean he didn't borrow elements from the soundtracks.

Heck, you can ever rip off your own work. Most people do, if you've got a resource that can get your end result with a bit of modification and you can do it without legal or moral repercussions, then do it.

But, if you are thinking of getting Gladiator and PotC soundtracks, get The Rock too, cause it's awesome.

If you enjoy cinematic instrumental music then you'd probably really like the band Godspeed You Black Emperor. They combined orchestral elements with rock and are actually featured in a few movies (28 Days Later, for example). I own the albums f#a# infinity and Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven, and I love both of them.

You can download some samples here.

I hate pirates of the carribean. Our marching band at school is playing 5 songs from the soundtrack. I've played two of them so many times that it makes me want to throw down my sax and start stomping on it.

I thought that I would.

As i recall, Claus Badelt did the music from Gladiator. Other credits of his that you might enjoy are The Time Machine and U-571: the Widdowmaker.

If your willing to span the gap though, I've gotta say that you can't go wrong with Secret Weapons Over Normandy by Michael Giacchino (absolutely glorious orchestral OST).

Appart from that, my other recommendations would be Howard Shore's LOTR soundtrack (with Return Of The King having some of the best tracks, though The Two Towers having the best opening) and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within by Elliot Goldenthal. I'd also look for the OST to Wing Commander (the movie) if you can find it.

I love the Gladiator soundtrack.

If you're looking for more, you can't go wrong with anything John Williams.

Wow, thank you all for your suggestions. I don't know where to start, so I guess I'll have to get them all. :D

The only John Williams I have is the Star Wars Anthology on CD.

I did see "More Music from Gladiator" on Amazon. I've listened to the Gladiator soundtrack many times... does the second CD have anything unique to offer? Or is it just more of the same stuff.
