This guitar is the one i'm currently looking at purchasing, anyone got any good suggestions for a low end guitar? no more than $190 or so.

The amp i'm looking at is a 15 watt Marshall MG amp... it seems quite good from reviews i've heard.

I'm looking for suggestions and information for a tight budget.... i was offered a Fender Squier at one place for a similar price to the stuff i'm now planning on and i know from past experiences that those guitars aren't too good.

but doesn't that ibanez just look sexy?

[edit]additional info: i'm not too fussed about the sound the guitar is designed for, as long as its flexible (i play in many strange ways) and solid.

solid in two ways, chunky sounding (which is why i'm currently looking at an ibanez) and solidly built (which a Fender SQ is not) as i don't treat my guitars amazingly, especially getting a beating as far as gigs go. [/edit]

Budget Ibanezes aren't the best things around. I'd look at a Epiphone Les Paul Studio (read Les Paul with no decorative crap) or a Dean Evo series, which are great guitars for the price.

OLP guitars are great for a much smaller price. Check out Ebay. They have good stuff.

Whatever you do, DON'T get a Fender Squire. They are absolutely horrid.

Anyways, here's some suggestions.

Epiphone SG

OLP MM1

ESP EC-50

ESP Viper-50

Washburn OE-30 (hollow-body)

Those are all under $200, by at least a penny.:p

I'm getting an ESP Viper-100, Viper-200 or an H-250, depending on how much money I get for selling my alto sax.

No! Don't sell the sax! You'll be a much better saxophonist than guitarist!

...

Actually, you can do whatever you want. But I think sax would probably take you farther than guitar.

I play tenor sax. I got an alto from my friend because I thought I would play it, but then I realized I actually wouldn't. So now I'm selling and I'm going to become the best guitarist ever.

I was looking into the Epiphone gibson style models, do you have anything good to say about the Epiphone G310 SG Standard? it looks nice for a low price... the Les Paul Special 2 is also nice.

There is also an SG Special listed too for the cheapest of the 3 SG selections... strange layout indeed.

hmm, although its not going with advice, i have a strong leaning towards these Epiphone SG guitars.... Epiphone seem to have my market covered so far, as long as their guitars are solidly built for their price.

and

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric_guitars/epiphone/g-310/index.html as delphian said.

are both real nice looking with decent reviews.

Anyone got anything to say about em? they both seem decent..... weee, i wanna guitar.

[edit again]with the help of seb i have stumbled upon this piece of kit... anything to say about this? seb seems like a good source of knowledge when it comes to pluckers.

Really if I were you I'd go with the Epi G-310.

Beh. most Epi's have mahogany necks. Mahogany's a good wood for the body tone, but I'll be damned if I see a mahogany neck that's actually tough.

My guitar has a maple neck, and it survived a fall from its stand to the ceramic floor. Maple and its variations (Rock/Birdseye) is essentially the best wood for necks imho.

The jackson sounds like a good deal. But One last thing, if you want a really rockin' axe, try to find a jackson that has 2 humbuckers instead of a hum and two single coils. but this one looks like it has potential for some rather punchy riffs.

[edit] http://www.soundslive.co.uk/moreinfo.asp?ID=3524 here's a jackson Dinky that has 2 humbuckers. same price.

Seb's right on that one (wood), I wouldn't have really considered it since I don't throw my guitars around :p

No wait, actually I do. My Ibanez RG wouldn't tune right (I hate Floyd Roses! ), so I threw it on the cement floor of my buddy's garage, where we were practicing. Only the slightest dent in the body. Maybe you should get one of those :D

cheapo floyd roses (aka licsenced) are ****ing godawful for staying in tune. Stay away from them on a cheap guitar.

has anyone had much experience with a Jackson JS1 or JS20?

my friend told me that he owned one for a while and said that the neck was crudely constructed and that it feedbacked quite a lot. I think i'm gonna go for the JS20 with the two single coils for now, i'm gonna see what else my friend tells me about it though.
