Yeah, there's been a lot of new stuff happening musically speaking in my life. just thought i'd give a basic rundown.

First of all, I'm now teaching guitar for my 6th week. it's going great. I have 10 students. 8 more advanced, and 2 little kids of 7 and 10 years old. it's quite interesting, but I'm really loving this job. And my students are all so cool it makes it all the more enjoyable. plus, I'm getting 200$ per 2 weeks for this, so this is even more useful.

Also, I've joined a band, a new project that we're working on in studio. they're all really awesome musicians and we're working really on theorically thoughtful music, think Opeth, but really in a unique fashion. lots of jazzy influence. We have a song in the works that's going to be in Locrian. This is going to be interesting.

Anyway, here's a ****track we recorded live at the studio, one drum 2 guitars. I hope you'll enjoy it.

No title yet, but this is very very very early, as i've only joined the band 6 weeks ago as well.

Tabarnac, ca buche en esti! Makes me want to pick up my guitar and play some heavy ****ing metal!

Seriously, this is awesome. It is really lacking though without a bass. If I lived near you I'd offer my services, but... :p

That's really cool. The only suggestion I would make is that you make create sort of transition between the soft and hard other than just pausing. A transitional phrase would make it even better, I believe. :)

This is awesome! But um...what happened to the "Jazzy influence" at 1:23? Sorta got thrown out the window until around 4:35. :p

heh. the jazzy is all the way through. more in the chord voicings and sharp changes. it's really progressive.

as far as bass goes, we have a bass player, but the basslines just aren't done yet, as I said, this is very early.

Sounds like something straight off Damnation. Great job.

its good, the drummer needs to work on his timing a little and some of the cymbals sound random and out of place, other than that its good stuff.

Impressive work, the electric guitar sounds a bit weak when it starts, but not after that... got to love the jazzy influence. Sounds like something I'd expect to hear during the credits when a good TV series end :)

Okay, Seb wins. But it still sounds like one song stuck in the middle of another. :D

the whole point of it being a studio project is to make many songs. it's like a movie.

At least, that's the next point I'm going to discuss with the guys, make a bigass concept in the lyrics as well. I'm probably going to be the one writing those lyrics. so lots of work ahead for little me. :D

I think it's pretty sweet, and no offense, but I enjoyed it a lot more than your Shadeye stuff.

Now get the bass done and write up some vocals.

Quite awesome, Seb. I like this new style. Bass would really help in the softer spots, of course, and personally, I think softer drums would be better suited. Overall, very nice work, especially for an early version.

And is it just me, or does the snare drumhead sound like it's kinda tight?

You don't question the snare. this drumkit is the best sounding kit I've ever heard. Mapex drum, real big, all in natural wood color. and the sound is really clear. so no :p

I was actually going to say that it sounds as though there's slightly too much snare.

Really great.

And I don't think the transition was obtrusive at all. I guess it's a bit of a staple sort of thing to do in metal songs, so I didn't think it was that strange.

Good stuff. I like the first part. Nice and mellow. The heavier stuff is good too. I'm really interested in how this is going to turn out when you add the bass and vocals. Keep up the good work.

It just sounds kinda higher than normal... although it's probably from whatever you used to record it (microphone(s), presumeably). It seems like acoustic drums change tone color in recording.
Or it could just be the headphones I'm using. *shrug*

...which reminds me. I need to go tune my drumheads.

the whole thing was recorded with only 3 mics. one for the drum, one for the guitar, one for the second guitar.

Well, with the musical structure, I would say it's more blues influenced. Jazz is really centered more around improvisation and style rather than specific chord progressions.
2004-10-25, 6:43 PM #23
Jazz still has that particular voicing to its tone. while not truly having the whole improvisational areas of jazz itself, it still has that "feeling" the jazz melodies usually give.

Kakdamn you, now I'm addicted to a song called "studio COmpo 2".. How low is that?
2004-10-27, 2:35 PM #25
Well, this is nifty (for lack of a better word).

The middle piece of the song is particularly my type of music :) I <3 it.
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

well, getting arounnd to listening to it, I must say the second part really, really reminds me of the battle theme from FFVII, at least the Black Mages version, I dislike the drums, can't wait for the bass
