New Megadeth Album
2004-11-01, 3:03 PM #1
Apparently last month Megadeth released a new album. I didn't know and was caught completely by surprise because the lead singer, Dave Mustaine, injured (burned I think) his hand about a year ago I think and quit the band (couldn't play his guitar anymore). I didn't think there would be any more Megadeth albums, although I did figure he would release a solo album at some point. Anyway, the new album rocks. Dave says in an interview I read that this is the last Megadeth album (last one in his contract) and then he's going solo. Anyway, check it out if you like heavy metal at all... http://www.megadeth.com/

Is this that "The System Has Failed" album I've been seeing everywhere? I was in buying the remastered originals (I have Youthinasia, Risk, Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction and I also have the live album, "Rude Awakening")

It must be the last group album, because he practically kicked all of the other members out of megadeth. And he injured his arm because he fell asleep with it up on the arm of his couch and he damaged a nerve or something. He talked about it when he co-hosted headbanger's ball. I like the new album, and I like megadeth, but what Dave Mustaine has to realize is that David Ellefson and Jimmy DeGrasso were both major parts of the band and fueled it as much as he did.

I've never really like Mustaine as a person, honestly. He was a bit of a bastid in Metallica too.

If I recall, this is technically a solo album, he just called in various people to help him out. I don't think it's the original band playing. I believe I read that in an interview. I can't seem to find the link.

Anyway, this is one of the better Megadeth albums. They had been pretty bleh since Countdown. Youthenasia and Cryptic were decent but after those it was pretty dismal. Needless to say, this one took me by surprise. Easily my favorite aside from Countdown.

I personally love Megadeth, a lot more so than Metallica. But dang it, I haven't been able to get the new album. I've only heard "Die Dead Enough" and "Kick the Chair". And, personally, I love them both. I've heard a ton of people say that this proves that Megadeth is better than Metallica, so I've got real high hopes for the rest of the album. Hasn't this also been said to be the biggest come back ever, as in album quality after a injury or something like that? Yea, again I've heard a ton of people say that this wasn't going to be that good because Mustaine got hurt, and he wasn't going to play worth crap, and then they said they were personally eating there own words.

And is it me, or should this be in the Music forum?

Megadeth> than Metallica as of late, yes. The first few Metallica albums ***** Megadeth though. But Megadeth has been putting out better music as of late because they pretty much stuck with their style instead of switching. I keep saying that Metallica went downhill after Hetfield went to rehab;)

So you think they went downhill after re-load? I think of them as this: They were like a drink that had a kick, but over time it started to go stale, and now it's got a bland kick from mold.

I think they went downhill when they put out Load. And I agree with your analogy.

PS: What song is my sig from?

Yeah it's The System Has Failed and I really like it. Oops, I forgot we had a "Music Discussion" forum, I always hated splitting it off from the discussion forum anyway >:( it's not like it's too crowded in here. Anyway, I also really used to like Metallica - after the black album they basically sucked. There were a few good songs on load & reload, and I really liked S&M, but most of their newer material (from load on) just isn't the same heavy metal as before - the riffs are slower, the guitar work isn't as impressive, and they just don't have the intensity they used to.

Megadeth went that way with Risk but when fans didn't respond positively, they went back to their roots with The World Needs a Hero, and I even like this new album better than that. Honestly the only album I don't really like that much from Megadeth is Risk, but even on it, I like about half the songs.

I agree. I usually skip around on Risk a lot, but on Youthinasia, Countdown to Extinction and Rust in Peace, I didn't skip around a lot.

It's a great album. Also, Dave Mustaine didn't actually injure himself, I'm reasonably sure that it was a cover story for a relapse into drug addiction. He managed to kick the addiction, so Megadeth came back.

Too bad it's their farewell album. But I guess it's best they stop now before they become another Metallica.
