Recently, my band's singer came up to me with a CD. this CD was Masterplan. Told me it rocked. and he was right.

I don't know much about the band itself, other than the production is kickass and they make very high quality Heavy Metal.

Masterplan - Crawling From Hell

Listen, Love, Buy.

Anyone else think the vocal is absolutely incredible? so powerful and ferocious yet at times smooth and grand.

It was ME!!!!!

Nah, I loved this. I might go CD hunting this afternoon.

Hmm I like this. It's slightly less affeminate powermetal.

The vocalist reminds me a bit of Russell Allen. The guitar tone is very CoB. My only complaint is that the music isn't particularly interesting to me.

The Masterplan album contains tracks with a whole lot more variety than the track Crawling From Hell, though.

This is some awesome stuff. i'd run out now and get a CD if it weren't the fact that i just went on a CD buying binge a little while ago and need more money.

let's see here...THEY KILLED IN THE NAME OF GOD! So, does that mean they lit my socks on fire in the name of God too? I downloaded this last night and my socks are still on fire.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I'm listening to it now. It's not as bad as I expected, I guess. The lead guitar in the foreground reminds me of Television, but more metally. The other guitar in the background near the beginning sucks, it sounds like generic fast playing.

The melodic voices in the background remind me of New Order, but not as good.

So it starts out passable, then turns to suck when the singer starts screaming the words "crawling from hell".
The lyrics throughout the entire song are terrible. Some of the worst I've ever seen.
It's not the side effects of cocaine, so then I'm thinking that it must be love

The riff in the middle of Crystal Night really is metal at its best.

Crystal Night is awesome, I thought the other one was okay.

Judging is a song based on lyrics is the most stupid thing you can do. A song is music. Lyrics only add to it. they're irrelevent. it's all about the intonation and how the words are said. not what they say.

Besides, I think I hear a lot of "generic playing" in your musical preferences. so look and judge your own stuff the same way you judge metal since you're much more mature musically than I am.

Why are you getting so defensive? It's perfectly valid to dislike the song because of the lyrics. They add quite a bit. Lyrics don't always make or break a song, but they do make a difference.

Then you talk about what I listen to... sure. You think you hear generic playing in what I listen to? Sure, whatever you say.
I don't expect this to lead anywhere but a disagreement on taste, but I think I'll hold you to your challenge then. Point out something you think is generic that I like.

I listened to that part of the song again and decided it actually did add to the song, and I liked the way the higher spiraling notes contrasted with the deeper melody. Even though I take back what I said, I still expect you to put up or shut up.

2004-11-23, 2:20 PM #30
lyrics or vocals?
2004-11-23, 3:17 PM #31
You got my point entirely wrong. You think I'm trying to start a debate. while i'm not.

What I'm saying is. it's metal. OF COURSE it's going to have "generic fast playing". Your favored genres also have "generic chord progression" or "generic rythm" lines in quite a bit of the songs. This goes for every genre. Heck, even jazz has "generic" playing.

2004-11-23, 7:29 PM #32
All right, sorry for getting all confrontational.

When I say "generic fast playing", I mean I find the way it's being played uninteresting and only serving the purpose of fast complicated sounding stuff. To be honest I'm not a big fan of most guitar virtuosos who play complicated solos, and I don't even like type of guitar solo that's mostly used in metal, so I would view a lot of it as generic fast guitar playing.

But in this song, even though it sounds like a commonly used melody, I don't consider that fast guitar generic anymore, because it serves a good purpose for the song.
It's not the side effects of cocaine, so then I'm thinking that it must be love

There you go. wasn't too hard?

there's a difference between "I don't like this style" and "this riff sucks!"

When I say "this riff sucks", the "I don't like this style" is what I really mean. Especially when I talk about metal, don't take what I say about it personally. I thought you knew that, otherwise I would have said it differently.
It's not the side effects of cocaine, so then I'm thinking that it must be love
