Velvet Revolver

The worst CD I've ever purchased. Honestly, one good song, and it's not really all that good. A couple songs sound like classical rock wannabe songs, while the rest are a sound-**** of punk, classic, and grunge. Utter crap.

Post the recent CDs that you were completelly unimpressed with, that you were rather looking foreward to.

Not really that recent but, Rammstein - Reise Reise*

*Yeah right...that CD rocked so hard, my mother felt it.
Think while it's still legal.

Pig Destroyer's Terrifyer is good, yet not good enough.
I have a signature.

I like Velvet Revolver. It's not all that original or anything, but it sounds exactly like I would imagine it would sound if you told me Scott Weiland and the rest of Guns'n'Roses had a band. Like...EXACTLY. Not my favorite album ever, but I didn't find it horrible.

I don't like Velvet Revolver. Partly because it's not my kind of music, and partly because they'd get put next to the Velvet Underground at a record store, and VU is infinitely better, yet more people will by VR.

For a disappointing album, I have to say the one by Johnny Marr and the Healers. Even Marr's guitar playing isn't enough to make up for the boring songwriting.

REM's new album is also disappointing, especially after the great new songs that came with their greatest hits album.

Paul Westerberg's solo albums, except for the recent ones, suck. The Replacements were brilliant, so it's a let down.

A Perfect Circle - eMOTIVe

Well, it WAS Perfect Circle.

Mine would have to be Velvet Revolver also.

The 3 Greatest Hits of Queen was my best.

I despise Velvet Revolver, while I love Guns 'N Roses. Odd? Yes.

I'm the same way Gothic. I am obsessed with Guns n Roses, they are one of my favorite bands ever, but I hated Velvet Revolver. Maybe it was the singer sounding like Kurt Cobain and Slash trying to sound more mainstream?

He probably sounded like Cobain because he's one of the more vocalist from the same grunge era, and they all have that sort of grunge sound (Cobain wasn't the first to sound that way, but he definetly gets credit for making it sound good).

Music is personal taste. I'm not a huge fan of guns n' roses, but I listen occasionally. Probably about as often as I listen to Velvet Revolver.

Too bad I can't stand Cobain.

The singer is a lot closer to Eddie Vedder than Kurt Cobain. Kurt's was probably the unique voice in grunge. There are some other singers that sound like him a little, but what especially sets his singing apart is all the weird stuff he did with his voice.

Ditto. Plus, it has an older sound, more like rock from 10-15 years ago that has really been lacking from music in recent years.

Scott Weiland isn't really doing anything differently than any of his work with Stone Temple Pilots, which Compos said, got popular back when Nirvana was huge.

I disagree with that statement. Kurt Cobain copied, in one way or another, much of the music that he listened to, including his voice. Meanwhile, Eddie Vedder created a new way of singing that was duplicated countlessly.

1991 we'd be saying Eddie Vedder was a new type of singer. Now, looking back, the order of when things were released and when bands started getting big is begining to clutter our minds.

By unique, I just mean that none of the other singers in grunge sound like him. I'm sure Vedder's voice was unique at the time. Kurt didn't copy anything to a greater extent than anyone else.

No. Wayne Coyne sounds good because he sounds crappy.

I don't think Nirvana really belongs with the label Grunge. They were more part of the alternative punk scene than the Grunge scene, and as sludgy as they are, they have more in common with Sonic Youth than Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam.

i can hear the same elements in all the bands.

who is wayne coyne?

more than one person can sound crappy.

listen to any nirvana song (specially songs from bleach such as floyd the barber, other tunes like beeswax and gallons of rubbing alcohol) you can hear it plain and simple, they sound crude and crappy, doesnt mean they arent good though.

edit: you bring up pearl jam and you dont compare it to sonic youth.

listen to Garden.

then listen to Daydream Nation.

that song could practically fit on Daydream Nation.

Wayne Coyne is the guy from the Flaming Lips :p.

You are right about Nirvana sounding crude, most of the time. Kind of like any punk band, really.

Garden is a great song, one of my favorites on Ten, but I'm not sure if it would really go well on DN. It lacks that abstract artiness.
