I'm going to see them tomorrow night at the Pageant in St. Louis.

/me does the super happy excited I'm-gone-explode-with-joy dance

I'll post how it went on Sunday. Unfortunately, no cameras are allowed in the building. :( I have a really awesome, little camera that would be perfect for an event such as this too.

Absolution is one of my all time favourite albums. It's super keen!

I've never heard of Muse before. What is their music like?

One of my friends hit the nail on the head when he described them as "epic." Muse's music is very big, lots of guitars, piano, orchestral music. Some synths, but not too much. I've also heard them described as "Sountrack-ish," maybe for an epic movie. They have songs that you would consider as "rock," but most of their songs are so much bigger. If you can find somebody with Absolution, definately borrow it and listen to it.

And agreed, Absolution - definately one of my favorite albums, ever.

Origin of symmetary is good too - new born = one of the best songs ever
nope.

Muse are one of the few current mainstream prog-rock groups. They have a lot in common with Radiohead but with more piano / synths, and slightly less... 'weird'. I like to think of them as the middle ground between Radiohead and Coldplay, but in reality they're much more than that.

Absolution is definitely their best overall album and slaughters all the others song-for-song, but Origin of Symmetry is right up there too. The first 6 tracks on OoS are just freakishly amazingly good. If they remade OoS with the more mature sound of Absolution I would probably never listen to anything but that ever again. Showbiz is a great album too, but IMO it's a step below the other two. The b-sides album Hullabaloo is also really good. If you like Absolution and OoS then definitely go out and buy Showbiz and Hullabaloo, you will not be dissapointed.

Best place to start if you've never heard Muse is definitely Time is Running Out. It was the hit single from Absolution for a reason. It's really catchy and has the flying guitar riffs and stunning vocals of heaps of Muse tracks. If you like that song it's worth buying Absolution (provided you can live with that being probably the second 'rockingest' song on that album), and if you like Absolution it's definitely worth buying OoS.

Muse is truly an amazing band, and opened my ears to a kind of music I didn't listen to before(Coldplay, Radiohead, U2). They're the perfect band to see live, and I would personally give my right arm to do so. So have fun.

They were really good at Roskilde when I saw them. Hope they have their jumbotron with them.

Muse? They're like a mix between the sound of Radiohead set to the melodrama of Queen (except they seem to take themselves a bit too seriously). The rebirth of operatic rock excess.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Review:

Went to the Pageant Saturday night. Opening act was called The Exit. Nice sounds, but no memorable songs. I'd listen to them again, but I wouldn't go if they were headlining.

At ~9:45, Muse took the stage. They didn't have the jumbotron with them, but they did have the metal keyboard stand with LEDs all over the thing. LEDs were hooked directly to the keys, which was cool. It was also programmed with several songs, and the LED effects were really neat. The backdrop to the show was the wall of human figures from Origin of Symmetry. Most awesomeness.

Anyway, the show. Opening song was Butterflies and Hurricanes. It drove the crowd to jumping like crazy. It was amazing. The lead singer started on guitar, then put it down and went back to the keyboard to play the solo, which is borrowed from Liszt, but is ridiculously awesome.

I can't remember the exact order, but they played most of Absolution, and a handful of songs off the other two albums. Bliss, New Born, Plug in Baby, and Muscle Museum were the ones I remember off of non-Absolution albums. Muscle Musuem was ridiculously good, as was Apocalypse Please, Hysteria, and Time is Running Out. The only slow songs they played were Sing for Absolution and Ruled by Secrecy, which were both amazing. After rocking out with Bliss, Muse left the stage. They were called back for an encore and finished the show with Stockholm Syndrome, which again was absolutely amazing. The lighting and the lead singer's pose during the chorus made him appear almost divine.

The show was about an hour and a half long, which is shorter than some shows I've been to, but plenty long. The only things I wish would have happened that didn't, and these are very minor, was that they would have talked to the crowd more(from one of my friends who saw them earlier, he said they were more talkative this show, and they weren't all that talkative at all; they thanked St. Louis a few times, and that was about it) and I wish they would have played Falling Away With You, because I absolutely love that song. But again, those things were minor and the concert was too good to worry about little things like that.

Overall, I can honestly say that the Muse show was the greatest I've ever been to. If you have a chance to see them live, you'd be a fool to pass it up. I'm still reeling from the sheer awesomeness of the show. If I had died after the concert, I would have died happy.

Hmm... I've only recently gotten into Muse. They're coming here Dec 12, but it's a Sunday and of course my nazimormon mother won't let me go.

And yeah, they are really repetitive. Time is Running Out and Histeria are like the same song...

B&H was by far my favourite song when I saw them, Ric, truely breathtaking. Interesting place to start, though.

Never heard anyone say they heard Muse play Falling Away With You live. Maybe it's just one of 'those' songs. Did they play Hyper Music or Micro Cuts? Definitely the two most upsetting omissions when I saw em.

Muse is Radiohead Decaf.

They do have some similarities to Radiohead, but I wouldn't call them Radiohead decaf. They do seem to have their own way of doing music.

Actually they're turning into more Radiohead if they took their 'weird' in a different direction.

Radiohead are the obvious point of comparison, but Muse are so much more than that.
