Hey guys,
I've been wanting to try my hand at slide guitar for awhile now, and it'd be cool if some of you could give me some advice, like: what kind of slide/guitar to use, who's a good player to model after, or just anythink useful.

I prefer the more traditional brass slides, although some prefer the glass ones. Slide on whatever guitar you want. :p

Steve Hill is a great slide player.

Big Hint: Open tunings.

Although I usually just play slide in standard tuning, it's much easier in something like open D or open G.

Thanks for the advice guys.

About the action, I've been meaning to scrap up enough money to get a guitar set up just for slide. I'm not sure how long that'll take, but I'm working on it!

Technically, yes.

If you're desperate, you can also use batteries. Lots of random things work, and each usually gives a unique tone quality.

I just tried a battery. Do you have to strum the strings? I had thought you only had to use the slide, and that would give all the sound. But I didn't hear anything unless I strummed.
